Please also scroll down the page to see how highly our parents value the work we do as a school. We are an infant and nursery school in Leicester's West End, tucked away in the heart of the city. Our children and families enrich our school with a broad range of languages and cultures, and we place a very strong emphasis on providing a nurturing and inclusive environment which is welcoming to everyone. We offer nursery provision in our Daisy and Sunflower classes, in addition to the 190 places in our Reception, Key Stage 1 and DSP classes. We are absolutely committed to being a fully inclusive school where equality of opportunity is a reality for all and where every child really enjoys their learning. We pay close attention to the different groups within our school to ensure that all - regardless of age, gender, disability, ethnicity or background - are given every opportunity to contribute, learn and achieve to the highest standards. Families work very closely with us to support their children’s learning. We provide adult learning opportunities and support for families during times of need. We believe that values such as kindness, respect, love and honesty are very important and we work hard to ensure the members of our richly diverse and multicultural community live together in harmony. We offer a learning culture of high expectations and quality teaching that encourages a growth mindset and a belief that we can all succeed. We don’t give up - we can do it! The Globe at Hay is an independent arts centre embracing an ever-changing arts landscape. In 2008, Hilary Lawson, an already long-standing resident of Hay-on-Wye, saw that the Methodist Chapel at the end of town was up for sale. Thinking that this uniquely creative town would benefit hugely from access to a gamut of arts and events, The Globe at Hay was founded. Believing firmly in the ‘Town of Books’ and our local community, The Globe at Hay pledges to invest in making a space where all can come together to share in culture and expression. We want to ensure that being based rurally is no barrier to exceptional events. In our programme, you will find films, live music, talks & debates, workshops, art exhibitions, courses and opportunities for schools. We believe that in a small community like Hay-on-Wye, an arts centre has a duty to work with its audience and listen to feedback so that the programme is always diverse and relevant. Year-round, we showcase talent found on our doorstep, and we are proud that we have a local audience from the town, as well as people that travel from further afield. Over ten days in May, when the world turns its attention to Hay-on-Wye for the festivals, The Globe at Hay works alongside the internationally renowned music and philosophy festival, HowTheLightGetsIn, on the riverbank of the Wye River. We have an education programme that focuses on creating work that encourages students and teachers alike to explore big topics through creative and experiential workshops. The Globe at Hay is particularly committed to ensuring that our work impacts hard-to-reach young people, and we are constantly exploring new funding streams to carry on this work. At The Globe at Hay, you will find our cosy and welcoming café and bar, run in collaboration with our Burger Me Restaurant. Our talented Head Chef has specially created a variety of delicious burgers guaranteed to get your taste buds tingling. We also have a huge range of side dishes, sharing plates, desserts and specials. We also have accommodation with our Stay in Hay cottages, Small Brook and Southwick (the latter available in late 2022). The Sapphire Project Organisation is an exciting new modern-day service for adults age 18 and over living with a learning disability. We want to understand what people want from their support, and to make sure that families and friends know how we will help them to make it happen. We offer a unique learning environment for our service users and although support needs may differ, we know that with the right support, people with learning disabilities can live full and meaningful lives. Aims Our aim is for service users to develop competence, respect, dignity, responsibility, independence and to promote their inclusion within the local working community. Working closely with service users we aim to find out what their passions are and wherever possible assist with overcoming challenges and removing barriers in order to enable them to live more fulfilling lives. What we offer Service users are offered the opportunity to develop transferable work skills, enterprise skills, independence skills, practical skills and social skills all within a variety of settings while being supported by qualified staff. Our project includes a café, a licensed bar and a kitchen garden all of which is open to the general public. We also offer a opportunities to develop general maintenance and wood working skills. Service users also have the opportunity to carry out a number of routine domestic tasks to help develop their independent living skills. These include, planning and shopping, cooking meals, basic housekeeping, getting out and about in the community and residential experiences. We support people in developing work and independence skills whilst having fun and making friends. Our aim is to break down barriers and to promote inclusion within the local community. What Makes Us Unique? We want to offer people the chance to learn valuable life skills along with work skills and our base at Hillsborough Arena provides us with numerous opportunities to achieve this objective. We offer an attractive, non-institutional environment with a team of committed staff with a very low rate of staff turnover, so people can develop strong, beneficial relationships over many years. We also offer a dedicated key worker to overlook and support the needs of both the service user along with the parent/carers. We want to understand what people want from their support, and make sure that families and friends know how we will help them to make it happen. I am exceptionally proud to lead and work in such a richly diverse school community in which students with different languages, cultures and religions learn together in harmony. One of our main priorities this year will be to ensure, as far as we can, that no child is left behind and that every child is challenged by the curriculum that we have in place. Students should find things difficult, although not impossible, at times. They should struggle at times and be expected to think deeply about the work that they do. They shouldn’t be getting everything right all of the time; if they are, the work is too easy and they’re not being challenged. None of this means that they shouldn’t be enjoying their learning; being challenged can be enjoyable. The curriculum is the bread and butter of our educational offer and should be inspiring a real thirst for learning; we can only do this through supporting and challenging.
