NINE ARCHES PRESS was founded in 2008 and emerged from an awareness of the local literary landscape and a desire to provide a platform for new and emerging poets. As a result, Under the Radar magazine was set up first, and Nine Arches Press swiftly moved onto publishing pamphlets by October of that year. By the following year we had brought out our first two full-length poetry collections, and a further batch of poetry pamphlets and issues of the magazine. Since 2008, Nine Arches has continued onwards and upwards, publishing poetry and continuing to develop Under the Radar magazine. In 2010, two of our pamphlets (The Terrors by Tom Chivers and The Titanic Cafe closes its doors and hits the rocks by David Hart, both now out of print) were shortlisted for the Michael Marks Poetry Pamphlet prize. Next, Mark Goodwin's book Shod won the 2011 East Midlands Book Award. In 2017, All My Mad Mothers by Jacqueline Saphra was shortlisted for the TS Eliot Poetry Prize. Our titles have also been shortlisted for the Michael Murphy Prize, and in 2016 David Clarke's debut poems, Arc, was longlisted for the Polari Prize. To date we have now published over seventy poetry publications, and 20 issues of Under the Radar magazine (and counting). In addition to publishing, we are keen to participate in the wider creative community of writing, listening, reading and sharing. We run regular creative writing workshops, and offer workshops and masterclasses at a variety of festivals. We also co-run Leicester Shindig, a bi-monthly poetry open mic night, at The Western in Leicester, and are involved in a variety of live poetry events both regionally and nationally. Nine Arches Press places a high value on good, concise editing and in working closely with all of our authors and poets to ensure high-quality publications that we will both be proud to put our names to. Our status as an independent press gives us freedom to take risks and closely support the writers whose work we really believe in. Nine Arches’ aim is to publish bold, diverse and distinctive new writing, an invitation to an adventure in poetry for our readers. When looking for new writers to publish, the priority is always towards work that will excite, surprise or delight readers. With eclectic and wide-ranging tastes inspiring and informing Nine Arches Press, we do not believe in defining a 'type' or genre of work to publish, beyond saying that the main criteria is to select high-quality original work with a unique voice all of its own. We are also keen to increase the amount of poetry we consider and publish by writers from diverse backgrounds, and actively encourage submissions from writers who have been traditionally under-represented in poetry publishing in the UK. Nine Arches Press is proud to have become a member of Inpress, the UK’s specialist in selling books produced by independent publishers, in January 2013 – our titles are now represented by Inpress and our trade distribution is handled by NBN International. In assemblies we have explored the meaning of ‘great’ defined as ‘outstanding, powerful, an example and influential’ and discussed how everyone can deliberately make ‘great’ choices to achieve success. The theme has just been introduced to the school community and it will evolve as the year progresses, we look forward to sharing more of this with you. Campus Creation In 1865, when Methodists in Ireland numbered only 23,000 out of a total population of six million, it was decided to build a college in Belfast, partly for the training of Methodist ministers and partly as a school for boys. Money was collected, mainly from the Irish Methodists but with help from England and America, and 15 acres of land were acquired on what were the very outskirts of the city at that time.This land included the present College Gardens as well as the site on which the College stands. The foundation stone of the New Wesleyan College at Belfast (as it was originally known) was laid on 24th August 1865 by Sir William McArthur, a Londonderry businessman, who later became Lord Mayor of London. Three years later, on 18th August 1868, the College was opened with 141 pupils. Just after the opening of the College a proposal that "young ladies" be educated on equal terms with the boys was accepted by the committee of Management, with the result that from the third month of its existence Methodist College has been a co-educational establishment.In 1891 Sir William McArthur bequeathed a large sum of money towards the foundation of the hall of residence for girl boarders. The College steadily flourished and the enrolment increased. There was a rapid growth of numbers after 1920, when the theological department moved to Edgehill College thus releasing more accommodation for the school's use.

I began my running coaching journey in 1976 when I ran in my green flash:) but kept on coaching, attending courses and qualifications/badges throughout my life. I also hold a post-grad degree in Physical Ed, with my first degree in Theoretical physics and Astrophysics. I have practised yoga for 25 years (recently qualified to teach in 2018). I also work in Adult Education as an associate lecturer with the Open University. After 12 years as a coach I decided to further integrate and develop my own running programmes and coaching with a much stronger focus on yoga knowledge and practice (attending professional development workshops from Leslie Kaminoff (https://www.yogaanatomy.org/) and Gary Carter (https://www.naturalbodies.co.uk/), A.G Mohan ( https://www.svastha.net/) ). We are all different, creating personalised programmes that allow runners to feel more relaxed, have a greater understanding of how they move and how they can improve their running form without an increase of injury. I have coached over 2000 runners, with a very mixed profile. From National runners to starting out and broken 'lost mojo' runners, all ages from 12-80! Running with awareness, running with ease, running with relaxation and stillness will set the conditions to allow you to run quicker, pain free and have a deeper sense of 'in the moment' focus when running or walking. I focus on developing a more mindful and holistic approach to movement (using much yoga training), allowing runners to recognise 'if it is somewhere it is everywhere' and 'don't think it, feel it'. We explore 'changing our relationship with gravity' allowing us to feel more relaxed and encourage a lighter and better feeling with the ground. For the BODY, for the MIND, for the BREATH The yoga practice complements and integrates into the running coaching, I don't teach a 'little bit of running' and a 'little bit of yoga'. They two disciplines connect and I hope folk get a sense of the power of combining the two practices. I have helped many people, from beginners to cross country runners to triathletes. Whether you are just beginning a running program or training for a marathon, race, triathlon, or general all-round fitness the soulinmotion running and yoga approach is one that builds a healthy body, instead of breaking it down from misuse or overuse. The background of runners vary from15min 5K female runners, 1h 3min half marathon runners to clients who could barely run/walk. Ages have varied between 12 to 85. I have coached yogi's, cross fit, martial arts, ultra runners, Ironmen and women, clubs, private groups.....jog scotland groups appear a lot as do some sport England. My own science, maths and sports background (BSc(Hons) Physics and Astrophysics, PGCE in Sport and Mathematics together with years of coaching means I always approach any idea with a critical and clinical eye. I am very passionate about inspiring others, reaching out and supporting people in a therapeutic way that suits them, their lifestyle and their individual needs. I am a very warm and friendly person, I work relationally, therefor the therapeutic relationship is important to me and I like to ensure that whom I am supporting has the space needed to explore and unwind what is troubling them. I have my own therapy space at Essential Space, this is a Communtiy Interest Company that I co-direct offering pay-what-you-can counselling and creative mentoring. I am also happy to see or meet clients for 1-1 and group sessions in GP surgeries, community centres and in schools if required, and hold an enhanced DBS clearance certificate and have up-to-date Safeguarding policies and certificates. I became the founder of A space 2 Be in October 2018, over the last 28 years I have been extending my qualifications and experience to offer both adult and children's Counselling. I began Reflective & Clinical Supervision for staff working with adults in the community and in private practice, and counsellors supporting children, young people, families, and or GSRD clients. I have had counselling myself, this was a time of self-development that set me on a path, I left school and became a health practitioner, working in an institution and completing a college course in Health and Social Care. I specialised in early years and had a placement in a school, this is where I discovered a connection with young people and adults with learning differences. My career went on to working and supporting adults with rehabilitation. After becoming a mum of three children I took on the challenge of managing a well-being centre called the Isbourne in Cheltenham town centre, it was there that I realised how beneficial therapies are for supporting both physical health and mental health. I completed the mental health first aid certificates and began my counselling training. I have supported hidden victims of crime with a charity, Infobuzz. This role introduced me to working in a crisis support team, supporting families in the community and working within the criminal justice system and running creative art workshops in prison. I volunteered with Young Gloucestershire supporting their counselling service and this allowed me to extend my experience to working with young adults who were struggling with life's challenges. My adventures have continued into gaining certificates in 'Stress Less Mindfulness' and running adult sound retreats. I have naturally entwined mindfulness into my personal and professional life and have found the benefits have been endless. I have been able to share these skills with all of my clients as a mindful mindset works for anyone, anywhere and at any age! When I am not with someone in a 1-1 Counselling session, you will find me delivering training to professionals or facilitating sound baths and retreats. Most of my events are therapeutic and developed for deepening awareness with a chance to focus and recharge.

Brittany's path led her through many experiences before focusing her work on the need for respect and humility in the amazing power, instinct, and normalcy of birth. Completing high school after her junior year with distinguished honors and a focus in visual art and writing , Brittany went on to study Literature at Temple University, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and certificates in both writing and honors. She maintains membership with Phi Beta Kappa, a national academic honor society. Throughout college, Brittany worked for Trio Upward Bound, a national organization that prepares inner city high school students for college. In her role as tutor and counselor, she gained experience in dealing with several different ages from ninth through twelfth grade, understanding of differences in learning pace and ability, and comfort in leading group discussions and projects. Brittany went on to substitute teach for pre-school through eighth grade at Frankford Friends School, strengthening her abilities in areas including the facilitation of group activities, the development of all aspects of the person - physical, academic, spiritual, emotional, and social, and the mentoring of children of all different ages and backgrounds. In addition to her education career, Brittany has completed a mentorship training program which focuses on peaceful solutions to conflict through listening, reflection, and understanding and the development of counseling skills. She attended a Birth Works three day workshop where she gained skills and techniques helpful in facilitating childbirth classes and providing labor assistance. She has also completed birth doula training by both DONA International and Birth Arts International. Brittany is a Birth WorksTM certified childbirth educator, a DONA certified birth doula, a certified breastfeeding counselor with Nursing Mothers Alliance, and a Certified Lactation Counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. She has also completed birth doula training with Birth Arts International. She also holds a Rebozo certification from Wise Birth Choices, L.L.C. Brittany continuously furthers her knowledge through regular attendance and facilitation at conferences, workshops, and lectures, in addition to her home studies, and her facilitation of workshops for clinical and non-clinical birth professionals. In an effort to make maternity care options available to all birthing people, Brittany volunteered her time in putting together the Philadelphia Guide to a Healthy Birth with Choices in Childbirth. Although the Philadelphia Guide is no longer in print, The National Guide is available online at www.choicesinchildbirth.org. Brittany has also been a frequent contributor to the Birth Works quarterly newsletter and wrote monthly for the e-newsletter, "Empowerment for Healthy Living," when it was published. She continues writing for the Birth Works blog. Brittany has been a guest speaker on several pregnancy, postpartum, and health-related topics at businesses around the Philadelphia area, including Martindale's Natural Market in Delaware County, Shanti Yoga Shala and Nest, both in Center City Philadelphia, and the Expectant Parents Boot Camp at The Please Touch Museum. In the spring of 2011, Brittany organized and facilitated a free community screening of the documentary, "Food, Inc." She worked with the non-profit organization WomenCare organizing an event featuring world-renowned midwife Ina May Gaskin in May 2011. Blossoming Bellies has also been featured in the July 2011 issue of herbalist Susan Weed's ezine "Wise Woman Herbal Healing with Susun Weed." In May of 2014, Brittany had the honor of being the only childbirth educator and doula serving as a panelist at the Birth Works "Ask The Experts" event held in Cherry Hill, NJ where she discussed birth options and answered community members' birth-related questions aside several distinguished birth professionals, including obstetricians, academics, pediatricians, and midwives, from the greater Philadelphia area. She was also honored to be a presenter at ICAN's (International Cesarean Awareness Network) meeting on birth education options in the Philadelphia area in January of 2015. Brittany is also the creator of two dynamic workshops focused on understanding the pelvis, the baby's movements and positioning as they descend and rotate, and preventing and working through complications that arise from malpositioning, "Creating Space: Pelvic Dynamics, Fetal Positioning, and Use of the Rebozo" for birth professionals and "Moving Through Labor" for expectant parents. She has had the honor of facilitating her workshop, "Creating Space," for obstetrical, midwifery, and nursing groups around the country. She is a guest speaker at the University of Pennsylvania for their student midwifery program and a frequent speaker at international conferences including the Birth Works International Conference in October of 2016, the ICPA Freedom for Family Wellness Summit in March of 2018, the Evidence Based Birth Conference in September of 2019, the Midwifery Forward 2020 conference, the ICEA 2020 Virtual Conference, and the Utah Doula Association Virtual Mini-Conference in 2020. She also facilitates pelvic dynamics and fetal positioning workshops for Maternity Care Coalition and PALS. She continues to facilitate workshops for conferences and private practices around the country. Blossoming Bellies began with Brittany teaching classes in her home in South Philadelphia. She still occasionally teaches classes in the coziness of her home but, after spending time teaching classes at South Philadelphia Community Acupuncture, The Nesting House on vibrant East Passyunk Avenue, and the community space Lilypad, she now teaches at the BOK building aside Justin Ohm of Ohm Chiropractic. She has also branched out to serving other areas of the city, including Mt. Airy, Fairmount, West Philly, Fishtown, and Center City. Brittany was a Birth Works facilitator at the Maternal Wellness Center in Mt. Airy and continued teaching Birth Works classes in Mt. Airy at The Nesting House (former location of the Maternal Wellness Center) and at each of their additional locations in South Philly, West Philly, and Collingswood, for several years. Her South Philadelphia series classes are now held at the BOK building in South Philadelphia, where she shares space with Dr. Justin Ohm, of Ohm Chiropractic . She brought group Birth Works classes to the Fairmount section of Philadelphia, facilitating workshops at Still Waters Holistic Health Therapies from 2010 through 2019 and to the Fishtown section of the city, teaching at City Sprouts until their close in November 2016 and at Minnow Lane on Frankford Ave through 2020. Brittany is a contributor to the international best-selling book "Baby Got VBAC: An Inspiring Collection of Wisdom for Better Births After a Cesarean," writing a chapter covering the importance of movement and guidelines for using it in all births, with a focus on vaginal birth after cesarean. In addition, she is a sought-after presenter on pelvic dynamics, fetal positioning, preventing malpositioning in labor, and working through positioning issues that can lead to stalls in labor, facilitating workshops at the Birth Works International Conference, the Freedom for Family Wellness Summit hosted by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, the Evidence Based Birth Conference, and the Midwifery Forward 2020 conference as well as for midwifery and obstetrical practices, labor and delivery nurses, and midwifery students around the country. She also has collaborated with East Eagle Yoga to develop and facilitate a prenatal yoga teacher training program full of the bodily knowledge, movement awareness, and empathetic practice that is crucial to the role of a prenatal yoga instructor. In Memoriam - Grandmaster Chen Yun Ching 1939 - 2022 The Rochester Tai Chi Chuan Center and the Rochester Ling Yun Pai wish to express their heartfelt condolences to the Family of GM Chen Yun Ching, and to the Chen Pan Ling World Family. His instruction and experience in the Chen Pan Ling Legacy that he passed on to us will always be treasured, and continued. Chen Pan-ling T'ai Chi Ch'uan Long Form The Chen Pan-ling style of T'ai Chi Ch'uan is a composite of the Yang, Wu, and Chen styles. It was developed by a World War II era committee of top martial artists commissioned by the Chinese Nationalist Government. Chiefly promoted by Chen Pan-ling, this style has been recognized with his name. This style of T'ai Chi has borrowed several elements from other styles making it a more energetic form by utilizing a greater range of motion of the body. It promotes health and relaxation, as well as the connections that make T'ai Chi an internal martial art. The Chen Pan-ling style 99 posture long form is suitable for all student levels. Chen Pan-ling Legacy Arts Shaolin empty hand forms, Core Bagua, and Hsing-I drills are covered. Warm up exercises include Chinese traditional health exercises and stretches, and Qigong. This class is for those of Intermediate to Advanced level and ability. Grandmaster William C.C. Chen Yang Style 60 Posture Form Grandmaster William C.C. Chen has been described as a teacher's teacher. Quiet, gentle, and supportive, he is none-the-less knowledgeable and perceptive in his teachings and evaluation on what people need. Grandmaster Chen's 60 movement form is based on the Yang style. It provides people with the necessary motions and movements to allow them to experience the relaxed aspects of T'ai Chi Ch'uan as well as the connections that make T'ai Chi a powerful art. Classes are arranged to accommodate the beginner, (the first 20 movements), and the more advanced practitioner, (the complete 60 movement form). Grandmaster William C.C. Chen FUNdamental Principles & Postures This class will focus on the fundamental principles of T'ai Chi by repetitive practice of individual postures. T’ai Chi Ch'uan forms consist of a sequence of various postures regardless of the style. The postures were developed to teach different martial applications based upon fundamental principles of T'ai Chi. The principles taught will follow the William C.C. Chen method and cover the postures included in the William C.C. Chen short form. Emphasis will be placed on performing postures from both the left and right (mirror image). The class is open to beginning and advanced students. Grandmaster William C.C. Chen’s exploring T”ai Chi Ch’uan from the inside out. Grandmaster William C.C. Chen is constantly refining and thinking about better ways to convey his ideas about T'ai Chi Ch'uan. We will be exploring beyond basic body mechanics, to a better understanding of the internal feelings of making a shape. Looking inward, internal energy, staying rooted, the role of fingers and toes, and so much more! Grandmaster William C.C. Chen Yang Style Long Form - 132 postures The Yang Style Long Form is a direct descendant of the soft style Tai Chi form developed by Yang Chengfu (1883 - 1936), who trained Professor Cheng Man-Ching (1902 - 1975), who in turn trained Grandmaster William C. C. Chen (1933 - ). The Yang-style traces its roots to Yang Luchan (1799 - 1872). If you have completed Master Chen’s 1-60 Form and are looking to expand it, this is the next step. Cheng Hsin Mini set - Postures and Principles This is an introduction to Peter Ralston’s 7 posture points and 5 principles using his 12 posture mini set. The mini set is actually 24 postures as it is practiced in both the original and mirror image orientations. Cheng Hsin Pushing Hands This is a class in the application of T'ai Chi Ch'uan in a non-threatening manner. Two people work together to explore the movements which help the body, mind, and spirit, as well as gain insight into the martial aspect of T'ai Chi Ch'uan. Students of either T'ai Chi styles are welcome to this class. It is insightful when the two styles meet. Sun T'ai Chi Ch'uan The Traditional Sun style long form as passed down to us by Tim Cartmell, taught to him by Sun Lu Tang’s daughter, Sun Jian Yun. Taiji for Meditation - Da Liu's Modified Yang Form We will use Master Da Liu’s modified Yang style Taijiquan Form with its gentle flowing movements, deep breathing and relaxed awareness, to quiet the body and mind, to reduce distraction, and to balance inner and outer awareness. Principles will also be covered to refine the Form and develop the internal aspects. The Form will be a vehicle for “mindfulness in motion” in order to achieve a calm meditative spirit, good health, and longevity. Warm up exercises include stretches, Qigong. This class suitable for all student levels. Balance and Leg Strength Training In this class we will work to improve our balance and leg strength, by using static and dynamic postures, and short sequences, drawn from some of the Qigong, Taijiquan, and Kuo Shu sets that have long been a part of our curriculum at the Rochester Tai Chi Chuan Center. Whether you want to improve your Internal Arts practice, or just want to age gracefully and prevent falls, this class is for Intermediate level and ability, but is open to all. Qigong An ongoing relaxation course, this is a Qigong workout for healing (sitting, standing and movement meditation for health and well-being). The goal is to sample methods to build into your daily health practices. Liangong RTCCC has used the 18 exercises of Series 1 of the Liangong health system for many years as a warm-up during tai chi classes. This class combines refinement of the Series 1 exercises with exploration of the additional exercises in Liangong Series 2 and 3. Proper form, the specific Liangong breathing technique, the coordination of movement and breathing, and the development of ‘internal stretch’ will be emphasized. T’ai Chi Principles We use the Simplified Taiji 24 posture Form and our Four/Eight Direction Form, to work on classic principles as defined by T'ai Chi classic writings. This course is for those of Intermediate level and a good pre-cursor to push hands and a prerequisite for long forms. Workshops The Center also offers regular workshops with many renowned instructors in the pursuit of excellence in the art of T'ai Chi and other internal arts.

I discovered Breathwork a few years ago and I’ve never looked back. After giving birth to each of my two children I suffered from postnatal depression. The first time I took antidepressants. After having my daughter, with the help of a friend who’s a nutritionist, I started supporting my mind and body through what I ate. I began to realise that everything we put into our bodies has a direct impact not only on our health but also on how we feel. Some years later I was introduced to transcendental meditation and I have been practising it ever since. It heightens my awareness of what matters and gives me a greater sense of peace and happiness. Soon after this I heard about a Breathwork workshop in London. It wasn’t something I knew anything about but I wanted to find out more. I was totally unprepared for such a mind-blowing experience, bowled over by how an hour’s guided breathing could evoke such feelings and sensations in my body. Even then I didn’t really understand the impact that a regular practice could have on one’s physical and mental wellbeing over time. But I did feel a real connection with Breathwork and I was curious to find out more. Within the week I had signed up to the training and mentorship programme. Now, after over fifty hours of case studies, several retreats diving deep into my own Breathwork, and a commitment to a daily practice, I am a qualified Breathwork coach. I can see subtle yet life-changing differences, and friends and family have also noticed the transformation in me, particularly in stressful situations. I’m much more in tune with my intuition; I have a deeper sense of calm and contentment, greater clarity and less unhelpful chatter. From being someone who fell into everything in life, Breathwork has given me clarity, focus and direction. Instead of reaching for my morning coffee, my Breathwork practice and meditation clear my head and set me up for the day. I feel passionately that everyone should have this amazing tool available, to help them process and manage life’s daily stresses, and even unravel past traumas. Shamanism is a way of life of our ancestors understand the connection to our Ancestors and spirits of nature that exist outside and inside us. Shamanism is the oldest spiritual path on the planet, it is in our roots. Wherever we live, all dimensions are real and everything in our world has a spirit, a life force. Walking this path deepens our communication with our Earth Mother and all that is. Within shamanism there are time tested healing practices which can guide our way to attaining balance and connection in the life journey that we are walking - "Rites of Passage" and "Handfasting" to help you to pass into the new phases of your life and just some of the ceremonies that can help you find your place or help you to embrace a new phase in your life. Connecting with creation can make us more balanced, and therefore healthier in mind, body and spirit. Shamanic journeying and life-energy restoral: the foundation of shamanic healing is the use and connection to the drum. The steady heartbeat of the drum carries us to the other worlds, to other realities. It is on this journey that the shaman encounters the healing powers, connects with the life force and can help to facilitate the healing process of mind body and spirit. With the use of the shaman's horse (the drum) a level of awareness can be entered at will, in which inner, spiritual realities can be perceived and experienced. A shaman journeys into the landscape of the person they are journeying for, always with the right intent and with their permission to determine what help is needed. Sometimes they can bring back a lost fragment and restore it to the individual, providing the person with the opportunity to integrate it within the totality of their being. They can also bring power allies back with them to help aid the healing process. During our life we can have traumatic events. These events can cause us to become out of balance. We bury them deeply within us and hold onto them. We send an aspect of our self into hiding. Within the journey we can seek out and find these fragments, return them. The shamanic journey is a powerful one. With experience one can travel to their own landscapes, look for their power animals, seek guidance, knowledge and interact with non-ordinary reality. Drum healing & drum washing: the drum is used like a scanner, and one is able to tune into the energy of the drum as it is passed over the person's body. It shows us the weakness of certain points throughout the body. Drum washing is a wonderful cleansing of the body. With the vibration of the drum the sound waves penetrate the aura and the physical body to bring about healing. It is a refreshing and invigorating experience. Science has proven that a constant, rhythmical drum beat can boost the immune system and relieve stress and tension within the body. Shamanic divination: divination opens doors, it is a guide to finding ones own answers. We all have the answers to the questions we seek within our own selves. Sometimes, however, we feel a need for guidance from someone else. Divination will help to show you to the door, but you must walk through it. Gaining knowledge and wisdom comes from our own experience.
