RoRo is a performer and a qualified teacher who has over 10 years teaching practise and a whole load of hoop experience. Originally self-taught, she now teaches at schools, circus schools, and conventions, as well as running weekly classes, and workshops. We travel often and have teachers all over the UK so no gig, workshop or class is too big or too small. Being Swedish in origin I feel very strongly that our wellbeing and happiness should be more prominent in our way of life and the concept of Lagom, which means ‘just about right, not too much or too little’ is a key concept to Swedish people. This balance between work and pleasure is perhaps more clearly articulated in Scandinavia and sits well together with the key foundation of the Positive Psychology movement. After my initial Psychology degree I worked in the Further Education Sector and I still have a particular interest in adolescents and in Post 16 work. I did my Educational Psychology training at the Tavistock Clinic in London in the mid 90s, and I had a good grounding in Attachment and Resilience based frameworks as well as Family Therapy. Over the years, I have also specialised in specific learning difficulties as well as more recently in Positive Psychology with a particular interest in Coaching Psychology. Over the last year I have received Positive Psychology Coaching from one of Britain’s most well established Positive Psychologists, Miriam Akhtar. Being on the receiving end of good coaching has given me a personal insight into its transformational powers. Having been an educational psychologist for over 20 years in a number of different settings, including both Local Authorities and the Independent Sector, as well as assessments for students in Higher Education, I came across Positive Psychology when experiencing personal and health changes in my own life. I applied a number of Positive Psychology strategies such as The Keys To Happier Living, (See Action for Happiness below) and I learnt to keep my attention and focus in the right place in order to promote wellbeing. I learnt what my Character Strengths were which enabled me to see myself in a different light. I feel strongly that everybody would benefit from knowledge of these principles. I am therefore keen to provide Positive Psychology training and insights to individuals, families and schools. Living Song exists to empower Young Artists and build communities through singing. We challenge limiting assumptions about what all young people can achieve, put young leaders centre stage and create innovative lifelong learning opportunities for all, insisting on diversity and inclusion in their widest sense. In August 2017, Living Song became a Community Interest Community (CIC) to enable us to build wider partnerships with Newham Council and other organizations, develop our funding steams and to create more opportunities for young people and communities to shine through singing. An advisory board was appointed, and we have continued to go from strength to strength. Who Are We? The company is directed by an Executive Director, with a board of two Non-Executive Directors and a team of advisors from across a wide range of music performance and education contexts. We have a Youth Board of five young people aged 16 – 25 who meet regularly to discuss and advise of relevant issues for them. We work with a range of tutors, artists and music practitioners, identified for their bespoke skills and experience for each project. Who Do We Work With? We work with schools and pupil referral units, community organisations, music education hubs, libraries, local authorities, commercial organisations, businesses and a range of community singing groups and choirs. What We Do Living Song has recently reviewed its work programme to see how it can be streamlined to maximise our impact. During the next 18 months – two years we will focus our attention on delivering three core programme areas which are: A Young Artist apprenticeship /’future leaders’ programme Delivering workshops in schools and the wider community A tailored Living Song Choral Music Experience (CME) These work areas are outlined in more detail below. Although distinct projects, the three areas of work overlap and reinforce each other, for example, a core element of the young leaders’ programme is the delivery of workshops in schools or for the wider community, and a handful of participants will be chosen to join Living Song’s CME course. I have been a registered Driving Instructor since December 2006 and attained my ADI teaching badge in January 2007, awarded by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). I have over thirty years of driving experience passing my own driving test, aged 19, at the first attempt. I am very approachable and am assured by my past and present students that I put people at their ease. Testament to this is the fact that I managed to successfully teach my own two daughters with the minimum of friction! My original working background is in Quality Engineering, having served an apprenticeship and worked my way up through various disciplines demanded of the role. The soft skills I acquired as a quality engineer, i.e. attention to detail and methods of meticulous practise, are attributes I have applied to my teaching methods. I like to ensure my students learn the value of good practise and that they know how important it is to take responsibility when they enter any vehicle. My students take their tests at test centres in Worksop, Sheffield Handsworth and Rotherham and I therefore have extensive knowledge of many of the driving test routes. I am registered with the DVSA to help advance driving skills through the Pass Plus scheme which incorporates motorway driving. As this is one area not covered in the standard driving curriculum many students find motorway driving stressful once they find themselves alone in a car for the first time. The Pass Plus course gives them the opportunity to not only put their motorway theory into practise, but to experience what it is like to drive for long periods of time. My Pass Plus training usually involves a drive to the seaside inclusive of fish and chips! Some, though not all, insurance companies like drivers to have passed a Pass Plus course and this is reflected in their quotes. So what can you expect from me? I am DBS checked (i.e. approved to work with young and vulnerable people), and I carry comprehensive public liability insurance. Personally, my aim is to maintain standards by continuously improving my own performance and offer a friendly, individually tailored driving experience for my students.

The Findhorn Nairn and Lossie Rivers Trust continue to address the issues facing our rivers and the wildlife that depends on them. Our FNLRT Management Plan 2021 details the diverse range of projects we are planning to help conserve and restore our river catchments. Over the course of the last two centuries removal of natural forests, overgrazing and changing land use have significantly degraded the ecosystems of our rivers. Moreover, we now face a climate crisis which is causing increasing global temperatures and dramatically changing weather patterns. These factors combine to present a very serious threat to wildlife in the catchment of our rivers, particularly to salmon. This demands our urgent attention and to tackle this we are delighted to launch the Findhorn Watershed Initiative. Through this ambitious initiative we seek to bring the River Findhorn Watershed’s communities, landowners, businesses, farmers, land managers, local authorities, and educational institutions together to work at nature’s scale to sink carbon, restore habitat, and mitigate the impacts of the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss for future generations. These are global threats, which require large scale programs and significant funding to begin to reverse the trends. The Trust recognises that we have an important part to play to ensure that our river catchments benefit from these initiatives. To be effective, projects will need to be coordinated at a scale beyond that of individual land holdings. A natural unit for this coordination is the river catchments. We will only succeed if we work in coalition with landowners and local interests, across catchments and with partners who enable scale and additional resources to be brought to bear on these issues. We continue to work with all our friends and partners to make a difference in this important work to improve the quality of our river environments.
