Our Story The OU Students Association was born in 1972, just a short few years after the Open University was established by Royal Charter. Our mission is to make a positive difference to all OU students and this is the underlying principle of everything we do. Setting up an Association for students was not an easy feat, and our foundation was announced in the January 1973 edition of SESAME, the OU students’ newspaper.

Wyclif Independent Christian School (WICS) is a day school providing high quality education with a Christian emphasis. WICS began in 1982 with just seven pupils, aged 4-11. The school now has more than 170 pupils, aged 4-18, taught by a staff of approximately 35 teachers of whom 5 are full time. Mr Andrew Tamplin has been our headteacher throughout this time. The school is led by a board of governors chaired by Mr David Jones.

The company is managed by a Board of Directors elected from the membership. The Annual General Meeting is held traditionally at the Annual Conference where committee members are elected onto the Board. Vacancies are advertised to membership prior to the conference, members are encouraged to seek election. Members may obtain copies of the minutes of the AGM and the Financial Report on request.

The Scottish Official Highland Dancing Association (S.O.H.D.A) is the oldest remaining “specialist” association of its kind in Scotland. Formed in 1947 by a few well-known teachers and dancers of that decade, it has now developed into a strong body of technically-minded Dancers, Teachers, Associate Teachers, Adjudicators, Examiners, Lecturers and Dance Schools.
