hampshire art studio

Hampshire Art Studio offers a range of exciting Art courses throughout the year. The idyllic position of this purpose built, fully equipped studio are hard to over state. The wooden framed, glass fronted building looks out over the chalk stream, River Dever, which in turn runs into the famous River Test. In addition to courses in the Studio, there are regular courses online, so you can benefit from expert tuition on the banks of a river, or without leaving home. Courses are run termly, for a few weeks, or as one-off workshops, and masterclasses. All these are led by encouraging and supportive tutors who are highly experienced, and eminent in their particular field.During the Summer months there are fortnights of themed workshops that run for one, two or three days. These offer an opportunity to explore something new, or as part of an exciting staycation.

After Art college my career began to take shape within the carpet industry in Durham, where I created exclusive designs for hotels, ships, leisure facilities and private individuals. A few years later I relocated to Yorkshire to join the studio of a large greetings card company, latterly Hallmark UK. Here I created artwork for cards, wrap and stationery products for major retailers such as John Lewis, Sainsbury’s, Marks & Spencer and WH Smith. I then went freelance eventually starting my own greetings card company. During this time I discovered my passion for painting landscapes and seascapes and now enjoy creating on a far larger scale. I have an impressionistic style and my paintings often described as having a sense of peace and tranquility. I am now based in a small harbour village in West Sussex, two miles from the beautiful West Wittering beach which is a great source of inspiration.

Thank you for your interest. Emma's Background Feeling deep appreciation for my early life, growing up in a super abundant garden, bursting with wondrous flowers and bountiful blossoms. Learning from a young age how to meet with nature in her fullness of spirit. Family life was coloured with complexity, tragedy and challenge.  I found great solace within the wholeness of garden space, which heightened my awareness of our deeply interconnected, cyclical nature. Our bohemian home was full of floral interiors, antiques, un-conventional ornaments and myriad curiosities.  Many of which continue to inspire and adorn my mosaic art today. In my early twenties I began exploring the process of making sculptural ceramics for many years at a local art school.  During that time I was invited to join a weekend course making mosaics.   I loved the idea of working in instant colour and form. I meandered with mosaic process and fell in love! I later became artist in residence at a local historical house and spiritual centre, which offered courses, retreats and B&B.  People visited from all over the country and around the world, which enabled me to meet and explore with many colourful seekers.  My studio was the ground floor of a small 17th Century listed cottage in the grounds of the center. The cottage looked out onto a wonderful walled garden, which I helped to care for, harvesting inspiration for my art.  Inspiration I appreciate the beauty and generosity of our natural world.  Offering an authentic, curative ground of endless wonderment and creativity.  My garden is a great source of delight and inspiration.  Teeming with every colour and tone, heartening aromas and kindred vibrations.  I’m passionate about vintage china.  I love how it offers endless possibility of pattern, hue, myriad tender tones and expressive textures.  Inspiring a deep sense of memory and creative potentiality within.  The fragments have a fine body and reliable quality, which allows for clean, strong cuts. I find this material very pleasing to create with. The whole process of making mosaics is a miraculous quest of gathering together diverse materials, from house clearances to charity & curiosity shops, enabling an endless enchanted flow of abundant potentiality and great fun!  I’m always in deepest appreciation for unique donated gifts of broken antiques, vintage wonders, figurines, vases and re-claimed stained glass.  Technique My studio is abounding with many colour-coded palettes, brimming with vintage china treasures, enabling me to be in spontaneous mosaic flow with ease of application. I spend quiet time, musing with mosaic movement.  Creating space for day dreaming, wondering and glimpsing potentiality. I appreciate my precious tools.  Various hand cutters and nippers of many shapes and sizes.  Remarkable, reliable, dear old friends. As I begin making mosaics I often just sit and start loosely nipping and cutting.  Feeling into and aligning myself with little sparks of inspiration.  Gently shaping each piece, miracles begin transpiring through mosaic metamorphosis. I use various cement-based adhesives and PVA glues for fixing the fragments to the different surfaces.   I often use natural pigments to colour the final grout application, which creates depth and helps to unify the whole piece. Goal My intention is to encourage harmony to emerge from diverse and discarded materials. Hello and welcome. My name is Tamar and I have been teaching art and design for 16 years! I founded The City Workshop Edinburgh as I want to bring the joy of art and craft making to as many people as I can. I never tire of seeing the happiness that creating art brings and I believe that art is for everyone. So whether you think you're 'not any good at art' or you have always loved making, I hope you'll come and enjoy creating in my little workshop in Edinburgh. My Mission I believe that everyone can create art and my classes give you the confidence to make your own individual art and craft pieces. There are so many reasons to learn an artistic skill; whether you want to study traditional techniques or switch off from the pressures of life, we offer the perfect environment to try something new. Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft holds an internationally important collection of work by the artists and craftspeople who were drawn to the village in the early 20th century.Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft showcases the artists and craftspeople who made Ditchling a creative hub in the 20th century. Visitors can enjoy a frequently changing programme of exhibitions and displays that explore Ditchling’s craft history. Each exhibition features key objects from the museum’s permanent collection alongside loans from major museums in the UK and beyond.

Our workshops have served as intense social learning sessions and therapeutic retreats to adults, and our children’s workshops have helped children express themselves and make large strides in their artistic endeavours. As reflected in our principles, all our sessions are inclusive of people with special education needs (SEN) and learning difficulties. We have helped children with SEN develop their confidence and become more involved in art. Our approach to teaching and learning is focused on using art to build a creative local community founded on principles of inclusivity. We provide a platform to showcase the work of our creatives via our Group Exhibitions - we also host and take part in national events such as The Big Draw and Lumiere London - the UK’s biggest light festival - and in local events like the Fabula Festival. We run pop-ups, co-operate with businesses alongside our workshops, and collaborate with non-profit organisations in addition to organising after school clubs with local schools.
