The BBQ Company – Our names are Hector and Pat, we are a NEW owner run business with two passionate South African cooks who have grown up cooking great food over the fire and outdoors. We value customer service and building relationships with our customers as the bbq community is very much a family, we love what we do and we love teaching people new ways to enjoy cooking outdoors. Coming from a traditional 12 month of the year bbq season ( Braai season) to a mind set that you only bbq in the summer months was interesting. We believe that cooking outdoors can and should be done year around, no matter the weather conditions. With our range of premium bbq’s we will be able to guide you how you can adapt what you cook on the bbq in order to enjoy great tasting food off the grill year around. Wether it be Christmas roasts, summer steaks or slow cooked winter stews and curries. We will be adding a BBQ Cooking Class in the future once our operations are fully up and running and are very excited to kick this part of our business off. Buying from an owner run store like this not only gives you personalised service, it gives you a friendly name and face you can call or chat to if you need some advice on anything BBQ, we are always happy to pass on some helpful hints and tips on getting the most out of your cooking experience. We want more people to share our passion and start cooking better than restaurant quality food straight from their own back yards – its really not that hard and anyone can do it.

DMAC UK was established by dance, drum and percussion and martial arts teachers to provide a creative artist forum for artistic movement. We have always strived to build a definitive variety into the classes available to our participants and also to provide a home for diversity-in-the-arts, so particularly looking to support dance styles from outside the UK – looking to support dance styles from outside the UK – African Dance, Cuban Salsa, Brazilian Dance and Capoeira, Bollywood Dance and so on. It’s been an amazing ten years, difficult but definitely amazing. Every week at DMAC’s InAlignment Studios saw around thirty regular dance classes, but it was the shows that really drove home what an amazing project it is, and the kind of energy that can be created from having these performers and teachers under one roof. That’s why the idea of a Collective is so strong for us from the outset. The idea that by working together we could create mutual benefit and create a really sensational social enterprise.

Horn of Africa Aid (HAA) is an organisation that stands for supporting the needy people in Africa, especially those living in the horn of African countries. Although Horn of Africa Aid HAA provides support in emergency food aid, health, qurbani or iftar (during Ramadan month) and water, its main activities are education and training. Horn of Africa Aid (HAA) is working in the most dangerous conflict zones of the region and from its inception it has delivered quality services to those in real need. HAA has well trained and well experienced staff in the humanitarian and education sectors and have successfully completed their 1st year activities in great professionalism and enthusiasm.

‘I am an artist, choreographer and performer trained in Butoh since 1992. My desire to see this type of work grow and evolve in the UK led me to develop this organisation. Audiences and participants for this art form are now fully established in the UK and Butoh has now become quite mainstream, and as familiar to students and audiences as African, Contemporary or Indian Dance. But it is important to acknowledge that Butoh is also always best when it’s not trying to be mainstream – it is an edge dance, a dance of the underground, a dance in the shadows’. (Marie-Gabrielle Rotie 2020) A Tiny History of Butoh in the UK. In the 1980’s Lizzie Slater (writer/historian) was very active in promoting Butoh and organising performances and workshops for Japanese practitioners including: Sankai Juku, Natsu Nakajima, Mutsutaka Ishi and Kazuo Ohno.

The spirit and ethos of WIILMA is influenced and embodied by the inspirational African-American athlete Wilma Rudolph (23/6/1940-12/11/1994). In 1960, Wilma overcame childhood illnesses and physical disability to become the fastest runner in the world. The first woman to win three Olympic Gold medals in a single Olympiad. She is regarded as a civil rights and women's rights pioneer causing gender barriers to be broken down at previously all-male track and field events and is on par with Cassius Clay and later Muhammad Ali, who both became global stars with the televising of the Olympic Games. She went on to become an educator and coach before dying suddenly of cancer in 1994. We believe the determination and spirit of Wilma Rudolph is one to be celebrated and her legacy is something our creative movement is proud to be inspired by.

In August 1996, Kathmandu University (K.U.) opened a Department of Music in Bhaktapur, where ethnomusicology (B.A. and M.A.) and practical music (North Indian classical and Nepalese local traditions) are taught to Nepalese and foreign students. The then German President, Dr. Roman Herzog, inaugurated the department during his state visit to Nepal on 29th November 1996. The academic courses are conducted by an experienced ethnomusicologist from Germany and lecturers from the U.S. and Nepal. Teaching staff for performance training includes local musicians and dancers. An exchange of academic teachers and students has been agreed upon and carried out between Kathmandu University and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. SOAS recognizes the exams passed at the Bhaktapur Department of Music for internal purposes. Presently, the K.U. Department of Music is the only university department in South Asia conducting full-fledged course in ethnomusicology. To date (September 2014), students from thirty five different countries have studied at the Bhaktapur department.

“The best undergraduate department of art history in the country”: This is how New York Times art critic John Russell once described the Art History program at NYU. The Department was established to provide a rigorous and wide-ranging education in the many facets of the history and theory of art, a mission that its faculty continues to enthusiastically embrace. Students become familiar with global art from antiquity to the present. The Department offers courses in Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Modern, Contemporary, East Asian, South Asian, Islamic, Latin American, African, Oceanic, Pre-Columbian, and Native American art, treating not only painting, sculpture, architecture, and photography but also graphic media, manuscript illumination, the decorative arts, and aspects of urban design. The Department is one of the few undergraduate programs in the country that also features extensive offerings in conservation and museology. The myriad museums, galleries, and local architectural sites make New York City the ideal place in which to study the visual arts on site, in the flesh. Beyond New York, art history courses are offered at the university’s various abroad sites, such as Berlin, Buenos Aires, Florence, London, Madrid, Paris, and Prague. The Department offers two undergraduate majors and minors, one in Art History and another in Urban Design and Architecture Studies (URDS). The specific course requirements are outlined in detail on the Department’s website. Since an education in the history of art can be enhanced by a firsthand understanding of its making, Art History majors also are allowed to minor in Studio Art through courses offered in the Steinhardt School. The Department publishes its own student journal (Ink & Image) and has an honors program, which culminates in the writing and oral defense of an honors thesis during the student’s senior year. Art History graduates have proven exceptionally successful in securing positions in museums, commercial galleries, auction houses, and nonprofit organizations. Those who go on to undertake graduate study typically pursue careers as curators, conservators, and academic art historians at the university and college level. Students majoring in URDS are well prepared for graduate study in architecture, urban planning, and historic preservation.
