Dental Team Qualifications

dental team qualifications

Leamington Spa

DTQ awards post-registration qualifications to General Dental Council (GDC) registrants, who are working as part of the dental team and who wish to develop additional skills beyond the profession-standardised learning objectives and assessment criteria for GDC registration, and qualifications to non-registrant members of the dental team who are working in dental administration roles. Any dental care professional wishing to carry out additional duties must be able to demonstrate their competence to do so, and therefore undertake additional development of their skills, knowledge and understanding. The purpose of DTQ’s qualifications is to provide a structure for dental care professionals to develop additional skills on which they are assessed, and for non-registrants to learn and develop knowledge, understanding and skills relating to dental administration and gain qualifications and professional recognition for such development. Our focus is to develop and quality assure modern assessments and qualifications for the dental team, including apprenticeship end-point assessments; which are not only fit for purpose for 21st century dentistry, but follow evidence-based educational and assessment principles, which produce high quality members of the clinical and administrative dental team, following General Dental Council requirements. We have extensive knowledge and experience in dentistry, including expertise in examining and designing assessments, and have a thorough understanding of what training organisations want and need from an Awarding Organisation. The GDC’s Standards for Education and Scope of Practice documents underpin the development of any new DTQ qualifications. Working closely with training providers and other key stakeholders, we have created a range of innovative qualifications that are fit for purpose for 21st century dentistry and the wider dental team. Our qualifications are geared to supporting your day to day role in dentistry, whilst enhancing your personal development and that of your team. We have researched the provision of education for the dental team as part of a PhD study, and have peer-reviewed publications which continue to underpin our evidence-based approach to training and assessment for dental professionals. Our team members examine from dental nurse through to Royal College specialty assessments and include GDC and Royal College Education Associates. We aim for excellence in all that we do. Our Research DTQ have pioneered and examined the pedagogy of adult dental education and training for the integrated dental team. We have extensively researched interprofessional education as part of a PhD study. Our qualifications are evidence – based relating to our findings, enabling assessments geared to facilitating educational processes which not only focus on developing knowledge, but it’s application to enhance understanding. This allows dental professionals to maximize their potential and deliver enhanced patient care. We practice exactly what we preach and have proven results based upon work in our own centres. DTQ Mission statement DTQ aims to provide high quality end-point assessments and qualifications for the dental profession, which reflect contemporaneous dental practice, in collaboration with the GDC and under the regulatory guidance of the Qualifications Credit Framework. Our values are to deliver excellence in all that we do. To achieve this we engage expertise in the dental education and examination field, liaise with our partner organisations, listen to our learners and continually reflect and react to improve our qualifications and processes.

Bristol

Hope’s Place opened its doors on October 17, 1998 in Ashland, Kentucky as a Children’s Advocacy Center. The Center grew out of a community child sexual abuse task force made up of child protective services, law enforcement, prosecution, mental health and medical communities who met regularly to define and refine professional roles in investigations and intervention in order to improve the system’s response to sexual abuse. Their efforts resulted in strong working relationships with clear investigative guidelines for an intervention system designed with the victim as its primary focus. Out of this task force a multi-disciplinary team was formed according to KRS 431.600 and 620.020 which mandates that all investigations of child sexual abuse be conducted by a specialized multi-disciplinary team. Kentucky has prioritized development of Children’s Advocacy Centers and was added to the multi-disciplinary team under KRS 431.600. Kentucky Association of Children’s Advocacy Centers (KACAC), a state association of Child Advocacy Centers was formed to provide regional centers with guidance and support. Hope’s Place is a full member in good standing in KACAC. In order to optimize services provided by Children’s Advocacy Centers and to maximize the spread of limited resources, a regionalized approach has been adopted for the funding and development of these agencies in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This planful, deliberate approach undertaken by the Governor’s Office has allowed decisions regarding the funding of local programs to be undertaken on a statewide plan for funding. Hope’s Place is the designated regional advocacy center for the FIVCO district and provides a safe, client friendly environment to victims and their families for all aspects of sexual assault, including initial evidence collection, counseling, and court preparation. We also serve our neighboring communities in Ohio and West Virginia. In January 2003, a capital campaign began for the purchase and renovation of a larger facility. In April 2003, a building located at 1100 Greenup Avenue was purchased and administration relocated. At the present, Hope’s Place contracts with physicians and maintains 10 staff members including counselors, advocates, and forensic interviewers. Hope’s Place facilitates the coordination of services from multiple agencies for the common goal of victim treatment, victim advocacy, accurate evidence collection, public education, and prevention of sex crimes. Hope’s Place is a victim-focused Children’s Advocacy Center that provides a safe atmosphere for the victim, lessens trauma and promotes healing by maximizing services through a multi-disciplinary team approach. Hope’s Place actively seeks to reduce the occurrence of sexual abuse and heighten awareness through prevention education. Our Center provides a victim-friendly, home-like environment, which is designed to meet the sexual abuse victim’s need for warmth, support and protection. Hope’s Place is where all agencies come together to meet the needs of sexually abused children by coordinating services for the common goal of prevention, intervention and accountability. Child sexual abuse is one of the most pervasive social problems faced by this society. Its impact is profound because of the sheer frequency with which it occurs and because of the trauma brought to the lives of children who experienced this crime. Historically, however, the sexual abuse of children was dismissed as a “family problem.” The significant impact of childhood sexual abuse is unquestionable. This impact, however, speaks not only to the individual child victim of the crime, but also to the mental health community. There is no longer a question of whether child sexual abuse is a criminal justice problem or a social services problem or a mental health problem, for its power pervades the territory of each. The question must now lie in the resolve of all professionals to overcome skepticism with acknowledgment, disbelief with understanding, indifference with indigence, and reluctance to intervene with an unwavering intolerance of the victimization of all children.

In addition to the programmes we support, we provide ‘drop in’ sessions and host ‘information days’ at all our locations and more recently have launched our ‘virtual learning platform’ to enable everyone to learn from home. We have built an excellent reputation for giving a quality support offer to those who come to our sessions using a mix of classroom based activities on both a one-to-one and group-based setting, coupled with high quality online learning to help learners gain qualifications improving their life chances through gaining personal skills, moving to further learning, taking up volunteering opportunities and securing employment. Our employed learners tell us that the skills they learn during their time with us helps them progress in their job role. With flexibility in mind Communicators hosts a virtual learning platform providing e-learning to those individuals who want to study from home or their workplace. The Company was set up by our Managing Director Isobel Currie in 1999, and the following year we secured a contract for supported online learning with Ufi/learndirect. Initially set up to accommodate ICT training needs for companies across the North East, we rapidly widened the scope and range of our programmes to include NVQs in Management, Advice and Guidance, Administration, Customer Service, and Cleaning,; at the same time we introduced accredited programmes in Maths, English, Work Skills, Personal and Social Skills and Customer Service. Over the last 18 months we have further expanded the offer to include CSCS (for construction) and a suite of Community Learning Programmes called ‘My Future Matters’ which have been devised to support those who are furthest away from employment to find appropriate and sustainable work. Isobel maintained a continuous relationship with learndirect up until July 2017, becoming one of the longest serving members of the then network and securing several major, national quality and performance achievement awards on a regular basis including ‘Learner Support Staff’; Working with Employers’, Moving Learners into Work’ and overall ‘Best Delivery Centre. An enduring theme throughout this time has been the support given to the local community, DWP and Job Centres, various local charities, many, many employers and Her Majesty’s Prison Service in Durham. Since the closure of learndirect, Communicators has gone on to secure new contracts to support the continuation of the service with System Group, Durham County Council and most recently was awarded a Prime Contract with Tees Valley Combined Authority. Isobel believes that the success of Communicators is based on the dedicated team of Tutors and Administrators who are trained to a high standard to support our learning provision. A high proportion started their journey with Communicators as volunteers, some are former learners and all have gone on to become very valued members of a thriving team. Everyone in the Team put our learners at the heart of the operation with the genuine and embedded aim to help every learner achieve their full potential - whether they are employed or unemployed. We believe that by living and breathing our Values, each and everyone of us look to make our Vision a reality. We have successfully retained the Matrix accreditation validating the quality of our Information, Advice and Guidance services since inception. During our recent re-assessment, learners interviewed commented on the willingness of staff to provide encouragement and support tailored to them as individuals. This support was felt to be delivered by approachable, non-judgmental staff who are committed to ensuring learners achieve their goals. The weekly Assessment Days and IAG provided throughout a stay with Communicators ensures they are very clear about their learning pathway and options. There were also numerous examples provided about the difference the support had made to them, particularly helping to overcome mental health problems and lack of confidence and self-esteem. Learners interviewed were very clear about what they could expect from Communicators, and were very complimentary about our company. Many of them shared their own stories of how we had made an impact on their lives, with some saying: ‘I don’t think I would still be around if I hadn’t come to Communicators.’ ‘They really do sit and listen to you’. ‘They spend lots of time getting to know you, it’s a relaxed atmosphere and I don’t want to go home at the end’. ‘You spend a lot of time talking about your goals and aspirations, they are always positive’ ‘They make you aware of the choices and guide you, I was adamant I wanted to do IT but when we sat and talked about Maths and English, I realised it would be easier if I got those qualifications first.’ ‘I can’t believe how far I’ve come in a short period of time.’ ‘I’ve got dyslexia and they have helped me understand what it is and how it affects me, I’m getting lots of support.’ ‘Lots of encouragement, you are accepted for who you are, made to feel straight away part of the group.’ ‘Whenever I’ve not understood or struggled, the tutors have been there to guide me through, without them I wouldn’t have progressed as well.’
