We cater for both recreational and competitive paddlers who wish to take part in all forms of canoeing and kayaking in and around Cambridge. The club is based at our clubhouse on Sheeps Green next to the Newnham Recreation Ground in Cambridge. Activities take place all year round and include local and national paddling trips on both flat water and white water. We also have regular pool sessions at the Abbey Swimming Pool where beginners and experienced paddlers alike can practice technique and receive instruction in warm water conditions all year round. In addition we have land-based social events throughout the year. We welcome newcomers to the sport and have qualified instructors who can provide coaching to paddlers of all ages and ability levels. We have a racing squad who compete at local and national level Marathon and Sprint competitions and welcome new experienced paddlers or beginners who wish to get involved in canoe or kayak racing. The club holds regular club sessions at the clubhouse where a member is on duty to give information to visitors. The club has no postal address so all correspondence must be with one of its officers. The club has had a long and rich history. Consistently teaching to a high standard, many students have attained the rank of black belt, and gone on to teach Aikido themselves. Sensei Matt Tennant has studied aikido for over 50 years and continues to develop his art and his students. His aikido journey started in 1958 when aikido was still relatively new to the UK and he was one of the early students in Scotland, initially studying under Tom Weir. His main teacher for many years was Ken Williams during his years with the Aikikai and later with the Ki Federation. Sensei Tennant started the East Kilbride Aikido Club in 1967. In addition to training under Sensei Ken Williams, he attended regular courses from Sensei Noro and Sensei Chiba. When the Ki No Kenyukai was formed by Sensei Koichi Tohei, the club joined through the Ki Federation of Great Britain led by Sensei Ken Williams. Originally organised in 1967 as extra training time for the Hamilton Hill Aikido Club, the first Aikido dojo in Scotland, the East Kilbride club quickly grew in numbers and established an identity of its own. The club has had a number of influences throughout it’s development. Having been affiliated with the Aikikai of Great Britain, under Sensei Kazuo Chiba, and Ki No Kenyukai, under Koichi Tohei Sensei (through the Ki Federation of Great Britain), the instruction at the club represents a deep and wide understanding of the principles of Aikido and mind/body unification. In 1984 the club left the Ki Federation and therefore the Ki No Kenyukai. Since that time the club has remained unaffiliated with any governing Aikido organisation and continues to teach to a high standard the principles of SHIN SHIN TOITSU DO(unification of mind and body) and SHIN SHIN TOITSU AIKIDO (Aikido with mind and body unified) as taught by Sensei Koichi Tohei.

We follow the structured examination syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance and pupils are entered for examinations from Pre Primary to Advanced 2 level. However exams are not compulsory, importance is placed on enjoyment and appreciation of dance as a physical and expressive activity and art form. Body conditioning is incorporated into all classes from Grade 1 to Advanced 2 level. Contemporary Dance is also offered and considered an important part of the training of a classical dancer. The new Rambert Grades training program was introduced in 2020. Pupils are accepted into the school from 3 years of age and all are invited to take part in the school’s own production which is held approximately every two years at the Nottingham Playhouse. There is so much valuable work to be done in the field of Sound Healing and Sound Therapy. The use of Therapeutic Sound has many possible applications. It can be a simple but very powerful way to uplift and empower people in all manner of situations.
