The NSN is a company limited by guarantee which is owned by its members on behalf of the nine provider networks spread across the north of England. The company’s primary purpose is to promote & represent the interests of its member networks. In addition, the company aims to ultimately be a single voice for skills across the North of England. The Northern Skills Network Ltd (NSN) is a not-for-profit organisation and Its aim is to represent training and education providers from all persuasions across the north of England and promote the value of vocational and technical education, especially apprenticeships, to employers and other important stakeholders. Its members consist the nine providers networks across the north including: North East, Tees Valley, Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Greater Merseyside, West Yorkshire, Sheffield City Region and Cheshire and Warrington. In all NSN represents over 300 providers, ranging from FE Colleges, Independent training Providers, Universities, Local Authorities and 3rd sector charitable organisations. As the name implies, NSN is both aligned to and supports the Northern Powerhouse agenda and is passionate, through its members, to play its part in increasing the productivity and prosperity of the north through increasing the skill levels of both young people entering work for the first time and existing employees within the workforce.

Despite the fact that betting on sport is illegal for anyone under the age of 18, Australia is a haven for gambling operators. The government has done its best to minimise the harm that gambling can cause by developing policies limiting the amount of gambling that takes place and prohibiting certain types of gambling advertising. The latest survey by the Australian Communications and Media Authority has revealed that wagering on sports in Australia is on the up, with a reported increase of 5 per cent from last year to the year to come. The research looked at the most popular types of gambling in Australia, and found that there are roughly two million Australians who bet on sport at least once a year. This equates to a loss of approximately $921 million a year. In order to minimise the impact of gambling on the community, the government has developed a community education campaign to highlight the potential risks involved. In addition, the Northern Territory has imposed a point-of-consumption tax on betting operators, making a hefty chunk of revenue go to the state. The Australian state governments can determine whether the licences they award to gambling operators are exclusive or non-exclusive, and what kind of fee to charge.

We hold regular meetings with a range of speakers; giving members the opportunity to exchange views, network and obtain information on topical issues. We send regular correspondence to ensure that members are kept up to date with events, local or national government policy & regulatory changes that impact on the Independent Sector. Membership of GCPA is considered a sign of a progressive organisation, committed to delivering the highest standards of care and keen to play an active part in the county’s wider social care community. Representatives of the Gloucestershire Care Providers Association attend regular strategic and liaison meetings with Social Care Officers, to discuss and review contracts, procedures and other issues. We also work very closely with the NHS, including the Clinical Commissioning Group and Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust throughout the county, working together on a variety of initiatives aimed both at tackling immediate issues facing vulnerable people and designing better ways of working for the future. In addition we have strong links with CQC (Care Quality Commission) and regularly liaise with Senior County Councillors, local MPs, local authority Commissioners and other decision makers, influencers and interested organisations. Govan High Language & Communication Resource (LCR) is co-located within Govan High (mainstream) School. The LCR opened in 2003. It is a citywide provision to support young people, of secondary school age, who have a range of language and communication needs, related to their Autistic Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. The current LCR role is 34 pupils. Although our LCR pupils experience challenges related to their ASD, the majority are academically capable of accessing the secondary curriculum, with support. The curriculum will be the similar to that being offered within Govan High. At Broad General Education stage pupils will be taught mainly by LCR staff within the LCR classrooms. All S1 – S3 pupils access PE, Modern Languages and Science in Govan High School using Govan High School teachers, supported by LCR staff. At Senior Phase (S4 – S6), students have the additional option of accessing part of their curriculum through school-link or vocational courses at FE Colleges within Glasgow. This is in addition to courses being offered in both Govan High School and the LCR. LCR staff support pupils academically as well as promoting the acquisition of social, organisational and independent living skills. A number of staff are also trained to offer support with mental health, sleep, bereavement and emotional regulation issues

Poplars Farm was bought by Mr and Mrs Warrington in 1979 in order for their daughter Mandy to further her career as a riding instructor by opening a riding school. Over the years Mandy and her family have built the centre to become one of the most reputable in the area. Mandy had a passion for riding as a child and was fortunate enough to have her own ponies. She was a keen show jumper and progressed through the ranks from ponies to horses and competed successfully with her best horse Merry-Go-Round. Mandy gained her teaching qualifications under Sue Snow at Field House Equestrian, where she became a BHS AI (BHS Stage 3 Coach) before leaving to start up her own riding school. During the early years here at Poplars Mandy met her husband Chris, who also works on the farm, and they had two daughters Philippa and Francesca. Mandy then started to live her passion for horses through her daughters, who both competed from a very young age. Both girls were successful in the showing world for many years, their most famous pony being Barkway Honey Bee (Beebee). Together they won many prestigious competitions and BeeBee gave them both the first of many rides at the Horse of the Year Show. Philippa (Pip) currently works full time as a riding instructor alongside her mum here at Poplars. Having graduated with a first class honours degree in law; she followed her heart and her love of horses and joined her mother at the riding school, she is a BHS II (BHS Stage 4 coach). While predominantly teaching here at Poplars, Pip also does freelance teaching and schooling and has recently become a British Dressage Judge. As well as showing, Pip has competed in affiliated dressage & eventing. Pip has two children, Bonnie & Ralphie. Bonnie, now aged 4 has already started her competitive riding career & had a successful first season with homebred Poplabee Georgie Porgie last year, finishing 6th in the Stars Champion of Champions final at Aintree international and gained the best young rider award from her riding club. Francesca (Chez) also works full time at the riding school, she is a BHS Stage 2 and has completed a Masters Degree in History. Chez has always competed her horses and ponies after being introduced by her mother, and was British Dressage Quest National Champion in 2018 with her horse Future Enigma. She also has a daughter, Harriet, who is proving to be a keen horse rider, and is looking to make her showing debut this summer as she approaches age 3. Victoria Witham is the newest member of the teaching staff here at Poplars. Vicky learnt to ride with ourselves and recently passed her BHS Stage 2 teach exam to become a qualified coach. A pleasant, hardworking and valued member of staff Vicky has the same passion for horses as Mandy, Pip & Chez, which makes her a great addition to the team. In terms of teaching staff, we are also proud to have freelance instructor Tara Godfrey available for lessons. Tara, a BHS Stage 4 coach, who has also gained her Stable Managers & most recently her Stage 5 teach exam, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team. Tara has previously worked all over the world, and therefore brings a huge amount of experience. Her passion is show jumping, having jumped competitively to 1m15. She has also competed to a very good level in dressage & eventing. Our teaching staff are supported by our lovely little team of yard staff, which includes our new apprentice Lewis. An apprentice from Reaceheath College, Lewis also learnt to ride with ourselves and is now following his passion of horses.

Richard Westmacott, the founder and lead instructor for Weston has a wealth of teaching and business-related experience locally and internationally. Richard has been described as a very enthusiastic, patient and knowledgeable educator who understands his learners’ needs. Prior to starting Weston, Richard worked for a large education organisation as the Academic Support Lead and Operations Manager. In connection with his studies, Richard researched how to optimise online delivery of English language teaching, in particular the approach to communicative language teaching. Thus, the principles and methods behind Weston emerged. Richard holds a Bachelor of Economics and Politics and a Master of Logistics from Cardiff University. In addition to a Master of Applied Linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Leicester University.
