This is a space for poetry, short stories and nature photography. You’ll also find articles about matters close to my heart such as green living, feminism and how to grow as a writer. My Creative Work… My creative work is often lyrical, inspired by the natural world, the darkness and beauty of the everyday and in search of women’s liberation. I’m currently working on my debut poetry pamphlet The Isolation Hospital (© LA@Mantimoon). This delves into themes such as isolation, feminine identity and exploration of our inner world. On occasion I’ll be posting from this upcoming pamphlet to give you sneak peeks of what I’ve been up to. Regular Features… I’ll be sharing features such as my ‘Haiku of the week’ and ‘Photo of the week’. Both are designed to inspire your own writing, aid quiet reflection and capture the joy of the present moment. You can also find my creative responses to weekly, creative challenges set and sent to my inbox by social enterprise 64 million artists: #TheWeeklyChallenge. Other features will include documenting my eco journey as I strive to go green and embrace green living. I’ll share top eco tips and eco field trips I’ve been on which help me reconnect with the natural world. In addition, I’ll be posting eco poems and letting you know about personally tried and tested eco friendly product alternatives. Feminism, Writing & Short Stories… You can also read articles on how to grow as a writer and the vital, evolving feminist movement. This will include thoughts about key feminist writers, feminist poetry and life posts about the development of my feminism. I’ll write about writing as therapy, how to find writing inspiration and share my thoughts about the work of exceptional writers. Watch this space for flash fiction and excerpts of short stories delving into the world of magical realism. Driven by complex characters, each story provides a delicate balance between the darkness and beauty of the everyday.

Also available is our FPL05 fire resisting service enclosure, tested to protect against both external fire exposure and fire inside the enclosure for 120 minutes. Our qualified and experienced team provide extensive technical advice as well as practical solutions on the specification and installation of fire resisting ductwork and HV cable and service enclosures. We share our experience and knowledge with bodies such as the ASFP and BESA to prioritise life safety and to raise the bar across the industry, in line with Dame Judith Hackitt's recommendations. We are third-party accredited under the FIRAS, LPS1531 and new Warringtonfire EWCL5 schemes, and our extensive third-party accredited manufacturing facilities ensure that our clients are guaranteed quality products as tested and on time. Our in-house R&D department, which includes a test furnace, enables us to carry out indicative testing, developing new ideas before full UKAS-accredited testing and product offering. We use small independent companies for our accommodation wherever possible, such as independent hotels and B&Bs in the location of our work and use local amenities. In addition to this, we are going as paperless as humanely possible, invoices/remittances are no longer printed but entirely emailed and some of our exam papers are now totally digital. This is something we continue to improve. Our staff even take notes on iPads when meeting with clients rather than notebooks and pens.

The Aqualife Story Aqualife Swimming was founded by Penny Watkins in 2012. As a child, Penny was a naturally gifted swimmer, swam competitively and felt very at home in the water. In 1999 she gave up her career in a City law firm and packed her rucksack, heading off for water-based adventures around Europe, Africa and Asia. Whilst managing and teaching at a Scuba Diving centre in the Canary Islands, Penny got her first taste of the joy of teaching others about the aquatic world. Penny returned to the UK in 2006 and decided to follow her heart and pursue a career in swimming teaching. Crucially, she was determined to offer something in addition to swimming skills; she would take a holistic approach to her teaching and ensure that all her swimmers grew to love the water and have an understanding and respect for the aquatic world. In 2012 she was offered the opportunity to take over the running of a small local swimming school . . . And Aqualife Swimming was born. The swim school now employs 16 swimming instructors and provides high quality and fun swimming lessons to hundreds of individuals every week, at three venues in Sevenoaks, Kent. Classes include Adult Aquafit, Aquanatal, Parent and Baby/Toddler classes, STA accredited children's lessons and a special Junior Lifeguard programme, and all are designed to develop ability, confidence and a love of all things aquatic. Class sizes are small which enables all swimmers to have the space and time to learn at their own pace. Key to the Aqualife ethos is teaching all swimmers to understand their own natural buoyancy in the water and thus become confident independent swimmers. You will never use use armbands or buoyancy controls in an Aqualife classes. All of the Aqualife team follow Penny’s original vision of teaching swimming skills in a holistic natural environment, whilst also helping babies, children and adults develop a love of water and a respect and understanding of the aquatic world.

Garforth Academy mainly serves the community of Garforth with some pupils travelling further to school from communities such as Micklefield, Kippax, Colton, Whitkirk, Swillington, Aberford and Crossgates. Whilst the majority of pupils live within walking distance we do have a broad intake of primary schools with current year 7 pupils coming from 27 primary schools. The Key Stage 2 APS on entry is broadly in line with national average but some year groups are slightly below national average on entry. The academy is larger than average, and has around 300 pupils per year group in Key Stages Three and Four with a large 6th form in excess of 400 pupils. We serve a diverse community and whilst a large proportion of pupils come from affluent backgrounds, some pupils live in areas containing pockets of deprivation, characterised by high unemployment, an inadequate employment base, low average income levels, poor physical and mental health and a degraded urban environment. It is therefore important that our curriculum meets needs the needs of all learners from a wide range of backgrounds. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils is below the national average (16% v 29%) as is the number currently in receipt of Free School Meals (7% v 12%). Pupils within the academy are mainly White British, with only 2.7% of pupils having EAL. The number of pupils with an EHCP is 1.3%, and a small number of pupils requiring behavioural and emotional support attend The Elland Academy in Leeds, which is a registered Alternative Provision within Delta Academies Trust. We serve our local community and work closely with partners to plan a set of learning experiences that meet the needs of our pupils. In addition, we use local, national and international labour market intelligence to plan courses to best prepare our young people for life beyond school. We have the highest standards and expectations for all pupils and we strive to provide a curriculum that respects the needs of all pupils as well as one that encourages young people to seek continuous development and improvement.

Beulah is an outward looking church, interested in Rhiwbina and concerned about the wider world. We describe our style of church life as liberal but lively encouraging participation in worship in which we mix traditional hymnody and new music from the world church. We encourage a thoughtful faith, questioning and exploring together what we understand the Bible and faith means today. We have adopted a range of worship patterns. Our main service is Family Worship on a Sunday morning. This gathers all ages together, there is a Junior Church catering for all ages and we have a crèche. The service lasts an hour and a quarter or so and there is coffee after the service. In addition to the service on a Sunday there is one other mid-week service. Meeting Point is primarily a gathering where we share readings for the week and pastoral news. Beulah Church affirms that Christ welcomed all into his company without exception. He did not judge who people were, though he challenged how people behaved towards each other. We believe God calls all kinds of people to work and witness in his name and we want all to feel welcome and included in all aspects of Beulah’s life and leadership. We acknowledge that we have not always lived up to Christ’s standard of warmth and welcome. But, we testify that when his Spirit is at work amongst us we are a people offering care and compassion to all-comers. In 2018 six URC congregations agreed to form The Cardiff and Penarth United Reformed Church Pastorate. The other five churches are: Bethesda URC Tongwynlais, Canton Uniting Church, City URC, Elfed Avenue United Church, and Parkminster URC.
