When tired at last, he sat on the bank, while the river still chattered on to him, a babbling procession of the best stories in the world, sent from the heart of the earth to be told at last to the insatiable sea.”
Awestruck Academy is Scotland’s most exciting creative centre. Founding member Allan Rutherford believes that people of all ages and backgrounds should have ready access to music and art based opportunities. Allan feels passionately that each of us has a unique voice to contribute and that we learn best from each other when we feel free to be our creative and playful selves. ‘Growing confidence to share the songs we write and the art we make is essential to our wellbeing and our sense of connection with our culture and with each other’, says Allan. There have been many changes since the initial adventure of starting up the Academy in 2017; a new professional management team is helping to keep the good ship Awestruck afloat as we navigate the uncharted waters of lockdown.
The main aim and measure of RIG Arts success is the positive development of local people using creativity and innovation as tools that enable all people from very different circumstances and abilities to explore and express themselves building confidence, self esteem and widening their outlook to encourage them on a path of engaged learning, further education, or employment.
