Description

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) formerly known as PTLLS, has been designed to introduce teaching for individuals who aspire or currently work in adult education. This includes FE colleges, training providers, workplace training departments and/or Local Authorities. It is a nationally recognised qualification and is also often the preference for employers to source as an accredited train-the-trainer qualification. This qualification includes written assignments and a practical micro-teach session, which can be completed remotely.

Duration:

Typically, distance learning students complete this course within a few months, but you can complete this in as little as a week. Students must complete within a maximum of 12 months.

Units:

Learners will achieve 12 credits across 3 units:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training

  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training

  • Understanding assessment in education and training

Assessments:

This qualification is assessed by a portfolio of evidence which must cover all assessment criteria of the units selected. Assessment methods include:

  • 3 x written assignments.

  • A micro-teach session

  • Self-evaluation

Who should do this course?

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) has been designed to introduce teaching for individuals who would like to work or currently work within FE Colleges, Independent Training Providers and/or Local Authorities. It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, such as:

  • Individuals not currently teaching or training – achievement of the qualification does not require practice other than microteaching.

  • Individuals currently teaching and training, including those new to the profession – although the qualification does not require practice, opportunities may be made available to observe and provide feedback on a trainee teacher’s practice; and

  • Individuals currently working as assessors, who wish to achieve a qualification that introduces teaching.

Pre-requisites

Learners must be aged 19+ years to be enrolled onto this course. You do not need to be in a current teaching or training role to complete this qualification.

Please note: course materials are provided in English and the practical assessment must be completed in English.

  • Can I pay in instalments?

    Yes, if you are an individual purchasing the distance learning option, you can pay a deposit and split the remaining cost by direct debit for up to 6 months.

  • Is this a recognised qualification?

    Yes, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training is a regulated qualification, meaning it is recognised across the UK. A Level 3 Award is equivalent to an A Level on the regulated qualifications framework (RQF).

    Your accredited certificate will be issued by Focus Awards, an Ofqual regulated awarding organisation. 

  • Are there any deadlines?

    For distance learning courses, there are no specific deadlines for assignments. You can work at your own pace. You have 12 months access to learning materials and tutor support.

  • How many assignments are there?

    There are three written assignments to complete. The qualification is also assessed by a 15 minute micro-teach session and a self-evaluation report.

  • How long are the assignments?

    Each of the three written assignments have a recommended word count of approx. 1200 words.

    These are broken down into five questions per assignment.
