Join Julia for a series of bite-sized, practical pattern-cutting sessions designed to help you adapt and evolve your existing blocks and patterns.

Each month focuses on a different technique or project to boost your confidence and skills in pattern adaptation and design.

You can join all or some of the workshops, booking on as you want. You can also book the whole block of 4 workshops at a reduced rate.

These workshop will teach you how to construct or adapt pattens, using either a block/slope or a commercial patten . The workshops are suitable for all levels, even if you have never tried pattern cutting before.

You will need:

Use equipment you have at home to start with :

  1. Tape Measure

  1. The longest ruler you have.

  1. Hard Pencil

  1. Rubber

  1. Sharpener

  1. French curves if you have (otherwise a dinner plate or other with curved edge)

  1. Scissors

  1. A roll of or large sheets(A3) paper (roll of brown paper? etc)


YOUR TRAINER: JULIA BURROWS

The Saturday Pattern Club is lead by JULIA BURROWS, an experienced pattern drafter and apparel designer, who worked as a successful designer and pattern cutter for 30 years on several brand ranges in South Africa and for suppliers to Marks & Spencers in Britain.

She has since taught pattern cutting and manufacturing for Fashion Enter in London and now works with Textiles Skills Centre, for whom she develops online courses and leads on-line and in-person pattern and sewing workshops.

  • What equipment do I need?

    Use equipment you have at home to start with :

    Course Specific Materials & Equipment:
    A visual list  is included within this course.

    • ·  Set square or pattern master
    • ·  French curve or similar
    • .  50cm ruler 
    • ·  Metre rule
    • ·  Metric tape measure
    • ·  Calculator (your phone should have an app on it)
    • ·  Masking tape or Sellotape
    • ·  Mechanical pencil or 2H pencil (Need to always have a sharp pencil)
    • ·  Pencil sharpener (if your not using mechanical pencil)
    • ·  Pattern cutting paper or craft paper (needs to be slightly see through). You can use brown wrapping paper or newsprint, but you won’t be able to trace off.
    • ·  Rubber
    • ·  Paper scissors
    • ·  Pattern notcher (optional)
    • ·  Tracing wheel (optional)
    • ·  Bradawl or Awl (optional)



  • Can I do these workshops if I have never pattern cut?

    Yes, these work shop are designed for all levels. 

    Whether you are complete beginner or want to brush up on an existing skill level, you can try this out for an hour and see if you like it and want to progress further.

  • Is there written information I can use after the workshop to work independently

    Yes. Each workshop comes with detailed easy to follow hand-outs which will be emailed to you to print out.
