Trucking is one of the most complex — and most rewarding — specialties in commercial lines. This course gives you the foundation to write it with confidence.
Two trucking companies can look identical on an application and be completely different risks underneath. What they haul, who owns the equipment, who's behind the wheel, and how the operation is structured all drive the exposure — and agents who understand that difference become trusted advisors, not just policy sellers.
In this 3-hour Instructor-led course, you'll move from the fundamentals of transportation risk straight into the coverage, compliance, and submission skills you need to confidently handle a trucking account, including:
Core trucking coverages — commercial auto liability, physical damage, and covered auto exposures, and how they shift between for-hire carriers, private carriers, owner-operators, and fleets
Regulations, compliance & safety — DOT and FMCSA requirements, federal financial-responsibility minimums, the MCS-90 endorsement, driver qualification files, and hazmat classifications
Risk management — how MVRs, PSP reports, and CSA/SMS scores work together to evaluate a driver and a carrier, and why a strong safety program is leverage at the underwriting table
Cargo coverage & common gaps — Motor Truck Cargo basics, bills of lading, reefer breakdown, theft, and the exclusions that trip up first-time trucking submissions
Practical application — what makes a quality submission, where coverage gaps typically hide, and how to issue ACORD 25 and ACORD 22 certificates correctly (without creating E&O exposure)
You'll leave knowing which questions to ask, which exposures to flag, and when a risk needs specialized coverage — the difference between guessing on a trucking account and actually owning it.
