This DfE-endorsed and LA-facilitated EYFSP Assessment session is designed to help Reception teachers use everyday formative assessment to produce accurate summative assessment judgements. Effective formative assessment provides the foundation for reliable summative assessment. The session will support Reception teachers in making confident and consistent EYFSP judgements by examining how evidence collected through everyday practice can contribute to a professional assessment of children’s development and learning. Participants will explore the best-fit approach to assessment and develop professional dialogue through reflection, discussion and moderation of judgements with colleagues. Summative assessment should not be burdensome or overly time-consuming. It is a clear summary of what is already understood about each child, bringing together information from formative assessment to support a professionally informed judgement about their development and learning
