This is Resource 8 in a series of textile resources created for primary teachers. The aim of this course is to give pupils their first experience of designing and making with smart and E Textiles as well as light-up & glow effects, through a mix of fun, hands-on activities and creative learning. Pupils will explore what E Textiles are, and how they can shape the future, while also making connections to everyday life, creativity, and potential careers
The resource includes:
Practical activities (making and design challenges)
Worksheets to support learning
Careers in design, technology, and innovation.
Artists linked to design challenges
Health & safety
Reflect and recall sheet to consolidate knowledge
By the end of this course, pupils will have developed an understanding of E textiles and the role they play in our lives, as well as enjoyed creative opportunities to make and design with E textiles.

This resource introduces pupils to designing and making with Smart and E-Textiles. Building on knowledge from Resource 6: Textiles Technology and hands-on practical learning, pupils will design for a range of scenarios inspired by wearable technology designers.
Through this resource, pupils will:
ā¢Develop practical problem-solving skills by planning and making a functional textile product.
ā¢Use creativity for self-expression, building confidence and engagement through purposeful design.
ā¢Take pride in their achievements, gaining a sense of ownership and accomplishment in completing a finished piece.
ā¢Understand real-world applications, recognising how skills in planning, designing, making, and evaluating are valuable across many areas of life and future careers.

This resource is designed for any primary school teacher who would like to introduce pupils to textiles technology. While it is not curriculum-specific, the activities can be used to support both the Art & Design and Design & Technology curriculum, with a clear focus on textiles.

Practice first: Itās recommended that teachers try out the activities themselves before delivering them in class.
Flexible use: The resources are designed in a sequence, but you can dip into them in any order depending on your pupilsā needs.
Timing: There are no strict time limitsāteachers can choose to deliver a single activity, or take a resource through its full progression with a class.
Stage, not age: The resources are built on the principle of meeting pupils where they are in their learning journey. Teachers may wish to check pupilsā prior knowledge before starting.
