In this session in collaboration with FlashAcademy®, hear from an experienced EAL lead around how to create a culture of belonging for new EAL arrivals. From first day processes to whole-school approaches and practical classroom strategies, we'll be covering:
Why belonging and psychological safety matters to the learning process
Trauma-informed approaches for settling new arrivals from displaced communities
Getting started with assessing English language proficiency
Embedding technology, such as FlashAcademy® to support a whole-school approach
Ideas for activities to help settle learners with very limited proficiency

Our speakers
Kelly Dicks is Headteacher at Filton Hill Primary School and the one of the EAL Leads for the Olympus Academy Trust. She was previously Head of Primary at Bradley Stoke Community School (BSCS) and has successfully used Flash Academy in her schools for the past two years to support language learning and, in particular, learners who are new to the country.
Lusine Nalbandyan-Andreke is a Customer Success Manager at FlashAcademy, bringing a unique blend of legal expertise and a lifelong passion for languages. Fluent in English, Armenian, Russian, and French—and currently learning Lithuanian—she deeply understands the challenges faced by both learners and educators in multilingual environments. Lusine is committed to supporting schools and students in overcoming EAL (English as an Additional Language) barriers. She believes that multilingualism empowers learners by broadening their opportunities and boosting their confidence.
