From your first prompt to your first classroom resource in a few hours

Never used AI for your food teaching? Start here!

AI can help with planning, assessment, differentiation and creating classroom resources - but knowing where to start can feel daunting.

AI for Food Teachers: A Practical Beginner’s Workshop is designed specifically for secondary food teachers who have little or no experience of using AI.

No technical knowledge is needed, and there is no expectation that you will already know what to do.

This is a supportive, judgement-free space to experiment with AI, try things out, make mistakes, ask questions and build confidence at your own pace. The session is designed to help you explore what AI can do without feeling that you are behind, inadequate or expected to be an expert.

What to expect

During this practical 2.5 hour workshop, you will learn how to write simple, effective prompts and use AI to create resources you could use in your teaching.

You will create:

  • a Year 7 Scheme of Learning

  • a detailed practical lesson for sweet potato katsu curry

  • multiple-choice and open-ended assessment questions

  • a pupil-friendly visual recipe with step-by-step stages.

We will also explore how AI can help you differentiate resources, generate retrieval activities, develop food science questions, adapt recipes, create assessment materials and reduce some of the everyday workload involved in teaching food.

Just as important, we will look at the limitations of AI, how to check what it produces and how to use it responsibly in school.

You don't need to be an AI expert. You just need to be curious about whether it could make some parts of your job a little easier.

Come with no AI experience. Leave with practical skills, reusable prompts and classroom resources you have created yourself.

Resources to support you

You will be supported before, during and after the session. Before the workshop, you will receive a short beginner-friendly guide, a simple prompting cheat sheet and the resources we will use during the session. You will also be encouraged to bring along one of your own lessons, recipes or teaching resources to experiment with.

After the session, you will receive access to a recording so you can revisit the demonstrations in your own time, alongside reusable prompts, example resources, a responsible AI checklist and practical ideas for what to try next.

You'll get:

  • Before the session pack - the session, AI basics and how to prepare for the day

  • Session pack - activities on the day

  • After the session pack - prompt reminders, next steps and five pragmatic uses

  • Prompt bank pack - 26 ready to use ‘prompts’ to help busy food teachers

Your facilitator on the day

The workshop is being run by Roy Ballam, a school food education consultant, and former Managing Director of the British Nutrition Foundation. Roy has run many workshops in the past, including AI and food teaching.

Frequently Asked Questions

SELECT Pay Pal and then the card option will appear.

  • Can we pay by invoice or purchase order?

We don't take purchase orders or invoices for our courses as they are usually very small amounts. The money that we save on using automated systems is passed onto our teachers to provide very high quality, low cost courses. Booking in this way also gives you instant access.

For small amounts - a teacher could pay by card and then reclaim form the school petty cash or expenses.

For group bookings -we can make exceptions where a Trust is buying a large number of courses and have a purchase order agreement - there is sometimes a processing charge for this. If you would like to discuss it, contact us here https://food-teachers-centre.cademy.io/enquiry?type=message. Access to courses is granted once it has been paid in full.
