This will result in some disruption through the winter months including periodic closure of paths around the Llyn Uchaf and Llyn Canol dams. Please adhere to all the signage and follow any instructions and all diversions. While this work is going on, the level of the water in our lakes will be lowered. I embarked upon a career in Nutritional Therapy after discovering the benefits of nutrition in supporting my own personal health issues including Graves’s Disease, Hyperthyroidism and Generalised Anxiety Disorder. After working and playing very hard in London and burning the candle badly at both ends, it should have really come as no surprise when I started experiencing some very unpleasant symptoms. I felt so out of control and at a loss of what to do. I turned to nutrition and various alternative therapies and was astounded at the results. Fast forward a year and I’d left my marketing career and began studying for a Masters in Nutritional Therapy at the University of Worcester. I am now a registered Nutritional Therapist and feel very humbled to be able to support individuals in improving their health and wellbeing. I have a very back to basics approach and like to make sure that you actually understand what’s going on and why we’re doing what we’re doing. I am know for my maintaining calm (in most) situations and transfer this into my client work. My aim is to leave you feeling confident in your ability to create long lasting changes and importantly more knowledgable in taking control of your health.

First written about in the late 1980s by American Traumatologist, Charles Figley, Compassion Fatigue is the “inevitable consequence of being immersed every day in other people’s trauma and suffering”. When you witness another person’s suffering your nervous system assumes that this ‘trauma’ is also happening to you and so initiates the flight and fight response. You can do neither as your job is to stay calm and cope, so you repress the feelings and carry on. However, the physical and emotional reaction does not go away and unless you deal with these feelings they build up over time leading to the symptoms of Compassion Fatigue. What are the symptoms? In many ways, the symptoms mirror those of the people or animals you are trying to help. These include feelings of acute anxiety, being unable to rest or relax and feeling that you need to be at work all the time as you are the only one who is capable of doing the job well. It can also manifest itself as feeling constantly irritable and short tempered, unable to sleep or feeling very withdrawn and detached. Your immune system is also affected by the constant stress, so some people experience multiple minor illnesses or constant headaches and back pain.

Andy had previously trained and qualified as an instructor with Delta School of Motoring in 1987 before deciding to break away and form his own company at the beginning of 1989 – this followed his sister and brother-in-law who had been teaching as instructors since 1979. Since qualifying as an instructor, Andy has appeared on radio and given talks at colleges about driver safety issues, and has spent time teaching in West Africa. Our Instructors are fully qualified (ADIs) who are all Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked and who are legally required by the Driver Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to undergo regular Standards Check to maintain Instructional Standards and be allowed to continue to instruct. Upon initial introduction, our instructors will present their instructors’ licence as identification. Our Instructors have all been specially selected to work for 1st Class Driver Training based on their calm and patient natures, relaxed yet informative styles of instruction, together with a passion for working on a one-to-one basis with our clients.

We hold regular meetings with a range of speakers; giving members the opportunity to exchange views, network and obtain information on topical issues. We send regular correspondence to ensure that members are kept up to date with events, local or national government policy & regulatory changes that impact on the Independent Sector. Membership of GCPA is considered a sign of a progressive organisation, committed to delivering the highest standards of care and keen to play an active part in the county’s wider social care community. Representatives of the Gloucestershire Care Providers Association attend regular strategic and liaison meetings with Social Care Officers, to discuss and review contracts, procedures and other issues. We also work very closely with the NHS, including the Clinical Commissioning Group and Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust throughout the county, working together on a variety of initiatives aimed both at tackling immediate issues facing vulnerable people and designing better ways of working for the future. In addition we have strong links with CQC (Care Quality Commission) and regularly liaise with Senior County Councillors, local MPs, local authority Commissioners and other decision makers, influencers and interested organisations.
