Co Antrim,

Social Enterprise of the Year 2022 (Social Enterprise Northern Ireland Awards 2022) Social Enterprise of the Year 2021 (Causeway Coast & Glens) The Designerie is a shop, creative hub, workshop and community destination, selling handmade products from Northern Ireland and Ireland. Founded by Enterprise Causeway in 2015, its core purpose is to grow the creative industry and promote creativity within the community, using it to build relationships and connect people.   The idea for The Designerie was born during Christmas 2014, when Enterprise Causeway teamed up with local artists and crafters to make Christmas Trees out of recycled pallets at our industrial estate. We set up a workshop in one of our units at Enterprise Causeway and opened a pop up shop in The Diamond Centre in Coleraine. Now a gorgeous destination in Bushmills - we supports over 80 creatives on the beautiful North Coast. The heart of The Designerie has always been to create a space where people from various social and cultural backgrounds, with different interests, and of all ages can come together to be creative, make new connections and feel inspired. We have delivered this under our support for business and support for community. We want everyone who visits to feel part of the experience, so you can always expect just that when you call in to see us. Whether it’s the feeling you get when you purchase with purpose and support local, or the creative atmosphere you walk into or the various workshops available. You never know, you may even get the chance to try making something yourself.

As a community, we strive to ensure that Blenheim students are afforded every opportunity to reach their potential both inside and outside the classroom. Inside the classroom, rigorous monitoring of the consistency and quality of teaching, quality of assessments and the impact of feedback have ensured that students flourish. Outside of the classroom, sporting, musical, artistic, dramatic, STEM and other extra curricular activities including an extended day, ensure that students continue to benefit from a rich co-curricular experience that develops them as students and as people. Blenheim sets high standards in terms of uniform with ten ‘non-negotiables’ and there are strict expectations regarding behaviour and conduct. Ofsted described Blenheim as ‘calm, orderly and purposeful’ and our students as ‘respectful, kind and courteous’, which is what we expect and see every day. As we prepare our students to take up their place in society we actively encourage them to take personal responsibility and to become independent learners. Part of this process involves the integration of iPads across the curriculum. Over 99% of Blenheim students own their iPad as part of our iPad for Learning Scheme. Technological evolution is insatiable and we believe this approach is key to ensuring that Blenheim students develop attributes that will allow them to adapt in a rapidly changing world. The iPad complements daily teaching and allows students to easily access a multitude of interactive and innovative resources both in and away from school. Parents/Carers enjoy the safety that the iPad brings due to it being firewalled by Blenheim software.

Upgraded Tutoring

West Sussex,

When Bob Gormley, our Head Tutor, was working on a Ph.D. in Philosophy at Cornell University, he needed access to a medieval manuscript in the Cambridge University Library. Since Cornell wanted him to stay in New York to teach their undergraduates, Bob was ironically forced to go on leave from his Ph.D. in an attempt to finish the degree. An American rather than a British citizen at the time, Bob had to start a business to support himself so that he could live in the UK. So, in 2005, Bob built on previous test prep teaching experience he'd had in New York to start S.T. Logic, which quickly became the most popular tutoring company in London for American standardized test prep. As a result, Bob never finished the Ph.D. dissertation, even though he wrote about 800 pages of it...in Latin. In addition to the Master's degree he earned at Cornell, he does have two more Master's degrees (with distinction from Columbia University and London Business School) to go along with his quadruple major summa cum laude -- four majors with highest honors -- from his undergrad at Wheaton College, a small liberal arts college in the US. In 2022, the company changed its name to UpGraded Tutoring and continues to offer the outstanding tuition for which S.T. Logic was known. We offer lessons for the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and school work for the American, British, and International Baccalaureate curricula. Thousands of students around the world have benefitted from our patient, effective teaching methods and materials.

Centre Academy

centre academy

A leading educator has called the Centre Academy Schools (London and East Anglia) “the most successful special needs schools in the UK and, indeed, the most unique.” Here’s why: We accept a broad range of ages, boys and girls, from 7-19 (9-19 in London). This eliminates the anxiety, common to SEN students, of having to move from school to school to school. Research has repeatedly shown that for an SEN student, moving school is a tremendously daunting experience. We address an equally broad range of learning challenges on a case-by-case basis: ASD, AD/HD, Dyslexia, Speech and Language needs, Anxiety to name but a few. Such breadth and versatility is essential, as most SEN students face more than one learning challenge—and Anxiety is common to almost all. We group not by age or by year group but rather by ability and level of preparedness. Research repeatedly shows that SEN students accomplish best when they work with peers who are working at approximately the same level. We keep our schools small, approximately 50 at London and 60 at East Anglia. This ensures that our class sizes are small (usually between 4-8 students) and that learning will be individualised. At the CA schools, one size does not fit all. All our teachers are highly experienced and all have significant expertise in teaching SEN students. We do not increase our student to staff ratio through use of learning support assistants. When our children leave Centre Academy, the do so with Outcomes: they have earned appropriate qualifications and they know exactly
