We offer an extensive extra-curricular programme which extends the school day and sustains breadth beyond taught courses and exam syllabuses. Teachers are very aware of the needs of students with SEND and care is taken to ensure access to the curriculum for these students. 6.6% of students in years 7-11 have EHC plans and there is an additionally resourced provision specialising in the support of Speech and Language development / ASD students.

Founded by Cliff Bura in 2008, Diesel Gym was born in an area steeped in a rich combat sports history – London’s East End. Throughout its existence it has prided itself in developing international competitors and champions across all of disciplines its practices – true “school of excellence”. From its Muay Thai practice which grew from the legendary Grandmaster Sken’s Sitnarong camp to Eddie Bravo’s world famous 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu system (a no-gi specific grappling system designed specifically for MMA and utilised consistently by many competitors in promotions such as the UFC, Bellator and ONE Championship). Its wrestling practice and system is one Diesel has developed throughout the years to succeed in the MMA arena. All our Martial Arts practices are supported by Excel Strength & Conditioning who are there to build and maintain strong healthy athletes. While Physical Defence Physiotherapy are there as our inhouse physiotherapy support to bring members back to full fitness when needed. Despite Diesel’s long and successful competitive history, the majority of its members train for purely fitness, self defence or personal development reasons. Complete beginners are welcomed and nurtured as importantly as its professional athletes in a true community spirit. In 2019, Diesel Gym became a non-profit organisation, investing profits back in to its own community projects in Newham in areas such as sports for all, mental health wellbeing and youth crime.

The Mother Tongue & Supplementary Schools Partnership (MTSSP) arose from a 'review of supplementary and mother tongue education in the London Borough of Islington', (Dec. 2001), conducted by the African Schools Association on behalf of the Supplementary Schools Support Service. The report stated that the ' education department benefits from an active, enthusiastic, diverse and well-established body of supplementary and mother tongue providers'. A key strength of our sector is the strong community base in which our organisations reside. However, the review revealed the need for support and development of ' specific quality assurance systems, training, funding of MTSSP providers and the development of more formal links with the statutory sector'. The positive response to the review led to the decision to develop a more formal structure. Since then we have adopted a constitution, with clear objects and have a management committee. In terms of achievement, the MTSSP partnership is on the cusp of realising one of our objectives, namely that of establishing formal links with the mainstream school sector. We continue to receive great support from London Borough of Islington.

Kinship carers are people raising relatives or friends’ children who would otherwise need to enter the care system. Since Special Guardianship Orders were introduced in 2005, Local Authorities have increasingly chosen to place children with friends and family as an alternative to adoption and long term fostering. Kinship care has now become the main route out of care for children in England, overtaking adoption. There are approximately 200,000 kinship families in the UK, though the actual number is likely to be much higher. Despite the growing number of officially recognized kinship families, this has not gone hand in hand with increased levels of support. Kinship carers are expected to parent traumatized children with little or no preparation or support, and often have no access to the services that are normally available to foster carers and adopters. Recent data indicates that Covid-19 has disproportionately affected kinship carers; most have been unable to shield, even when vulnerable, and they have not been prioritized in vaccination and other support programs.

Our Trainers, Assessors and IQAs have a wide range of experiences working in different roles within the education, quality assurance and childcare sector.
