What do we teach at The Pole Studio? BEGINNER 1 POLE FITNESS The aim of our Beginners classes is to build your confidence on and around the pole. BEGINNER 2 POLE FITNESS You will be introduced to the first steps of inverting (going upside down) and conditioning techniques. INTERMEDIATE POLE FITNESS At this level, you will be learning more challenging moves, spins, inverts, holds and combinations. ADVANCED POLE FITNESS Our Advanced classes incorporate harder tricks, inverts, spins, holds and combinations. ELITE POLE FITNESS Our Elite levels are designed for the hardcore poler with a very high level of fitness, strength and endurance. FLEXIBILITY AND CONDITIONING This class has been specifically designed to help our students improve their flexibility. ROUTINE CLASSES This class is for students of all levels who want to explore dancing and build a routine into their Pole Fitness classes. CHOREOGRAPY These classes are for those who want to work on a routine but need an outside eye or have an idea but don’t know how to start. PRIVATE SESSIONS The Pole Studio offers private lessons for 121’s or small groups, great for those who want to learn at their own pace. POLE PARTIES Hen do? 40th? 30th? 50th? anniversary, 21st birthday? Thank goodness it’s Friday pole parties are available. PRACTICE SESSIONS Practice sessions are available at our Basingstoke, Dorking and Surbiton Pole Studios. For £10 an hour you will get a pole on your own to practice and perfect moves you have been learning within your lessons. ABOUT US Wuntanara – meaning ‘we are together’ in the Soussou language from Guinea Conakry – is a collective of outstanding artists from West Africa and dedicated African drumming and dance students from across Europe. Master Drummer Souleymane Compo is the Founder and Artistic Director Wuntanara, and CEO of Wuntanara Ltd. Souleymane was born into the proud musical tradition in Guinea. As a young man he travelled to The Gambia, where he continued his training in the traditional arts with Guinean masters, in the famous Fatala Drum and Dance School. He soon began teaching African drumming and dance to students from all over the world. An accomplished dancer, he also became choreographer and lead dancer for the Fatala Ballet troupe. Souleymane moved from Africa to London in 2004. Since then he has been teaching and performing in schools, weekly classes, festivals and private events across the UK. He combines warmth and patience with great musical knowledge and skill. He is an inspiring teacher, as well as an accomplished performer. Wuntanara's lead dancer is Salif Camara Salif belongs to a family of Guinean artists, and began dancing at a young age. An exhilarating dancer, Salif has performed in some of the most acclaimed Guinean ballet troupes and teaches Guinean dance to student across Europe as well as in Guinea. Mel became a Personal Trainer so she could help and show people that it is possible to lead a healthy life. She wanted to share the enjoyment of exercising for a healthy body and mind with others. It’s great watching clients work hard throughout their sessions and giving them the opportunity to push themselves to make their goals reality. The positive feeling people get from achieving their goals is rewarding for me and motivation to keep doing what I do. Capoeira is an art which combines fighting and dancing elements and makes it as one whole fighting style. If you want to train your sense of rhythm, agility, smoothness of movement, dynamics, coordination and improve your physical condition, the art of capoeira is just for you. It doesn’t matter how old you are, how tall you are or how much you weigh – it’s a completely safe martial art with something for everyone. If you want, sign up and come to the class and you will find that capoeira gives you a lot of satisfaction. Capoeira was born in the 18th century in Brazil, which is still today the cradle of this martial art. Smooth kicks, dodges and changes to the rhythm of the music are the basis of this martial art, unique in many respects. There are several styles of hers, some of which focus more on movements to the music and others on aspects more related to combat. The assumption of capoeira is spectacular body play, which equips them with fitness, teaches them to feel and is a source of pure pleasure. It has the form of shows enriched with music, during which smooth, rhythmic swings, punches, and dodges are performed, but in a non-contact manner, so completely safe. Capoeira engages not only the body but also the senses. Capoeira has no limits and does not impose anything on you. You want and you can do anything, but you don’t have to do anything. It is a feast for the body and soul, with the legs playing the main role – they are used to make most of the strokes, while the hands are used for passages and dodges. Capoeira teaches balance and stabilization, while relaxing and exercising the body, allowing you to express yourself and at the same time cut yourself off from everyday problems.
